GOOD horror movie retro games?
Re: GOOD horror movie retro games?
Ah, I can't believe I forgot The Thing! I haven't gotten to play it yet, but the few friends that have seemed to enjoy it. I really think the Evil Dead series comes down to individual titles. While I enjoyed Fistful of Boomstick, Hail to the King felt sorely lacking to me.

I liked Hail, mostly becuz it actually was set in the cabin. Fistful is great though. The other... meh. The Thing is great though. If you like the film (and you SHOULD) then you should appreciate the game. Also, I wanted to mention Jaws: Unleashed for PS2. Cuz you get to be Bruce...er, Jaws. I actually know and have played A LOT more horror movie games, but I"m just naming ones I'd fully suggest.Ack wrote:Ah, I can't believe I forgot The Thing! Aliens VS Predator (Classic 2000) for PC is a great horror movie-based FPS. The single player campaigns and the multiplayer are both fun. The controls are lightning fast and fluid and there are several legitimately scary parts. Plus, it's only $5 bucks these days as they are trying to build hype for the new AvP.
Also Obscure and Obscure II: The Aftermath both do a pretty good job of feeling like a teen slasher flick, even though they aren't based on any particular movie. They also boast being some of the only 2 player horror games. They do have Resident Evil-style tank controls though, so they may not be what you're looking for.

Hmm..the problem I have with naming Jaws Unleashed is that it didn't feel horror-themed at all, mainly since you played as the shark. I'm trying to think of others, but stuff like the Aaagh Real Monsters and The Addams Family games are all that are coming to mind.
Now if you want horror games that were definitely influenced by films, Illbleed on the Dreamcast would probably be worth looking into. It's a little...odd, but definitely unique.

Is the Dreamcast considered retro? I enjoy the Evil Dead game on it, and D-2 might as well be a movie.
I love Dracula for the Sega CD, but I'm a minority in that vote.
I'm sure good horror movie retro games exist, just do more some digging.
