well just the 2D Metroids were very "explore area -- kill shit" in scope, where as this has like scan items and de-activate locks and stuff. I dont know. It's not quite as simplistic to me. It just seems like a completely differerent experience.KillemallCFH wrote:I was as skeptical as the next guy when I heard they were making a 3D Metroid game, but I was pretty much hooked from the minute I started playing.
What exactly are you finding confusing? I don't remember any puzzles being overly difficult; the minimap is good and navigation always seemed pretty easy to me (waaaaaaaay easier than I or II).
As far as being able to "pick-up-and-play," I don't think any Metroid games are suppose to be like that really. They're not overly complicated, if that's what you mean, but you're supposed to be immersed in the game's world, and you're suppose to have to think about where to go and what to do.

Re: I don't think I like Metroid Prime
Well the best thing I, or anyone else, can tell you is have the game grow onto you. The best approach to do this is to look for the things that you liked about the 2D games and have that happy memory fuel your gears to keep going. Best example was music. When you get to Magmoor Caverns, Super Metroid music started to play. It was the best music in that game and to hear it again a few years later got me going. The story of all three games (prime games I mean) are actually good. Its a game where you need dedication of time to fully benefit what its bringing to the table for the franchise. By no means "pick up, and play."
Re: I don't think I like Metroid Prime
If you don't like Prime 1 stay away from Prime 2. The difficulty has been ramped up significantly and has a much larger world. I'll admit there is a adjustment period if your used to the 2D entries. Once your in about 6 to 7 hours and you get familiar with it the game sucks you right in. Its all about the exploration and discovery.
I felt the same way you did when I first played Prime 1 way back when. I bought the Prime Trilogy on launch day a while back and gave it a second chance. Man, I'm glad I did as it has become my new drug and I hate almost all FPSs. I'm playing Prime 2 now and its brutal but, really awsome. Its not a new concept by any means, but I love the mysterious feel of the dark world in Prime 2.

Prime 2 is super hard for the GC but Retro toned down the bosses for the Trilogy.corn619 wrote:I felt the same way you did when I first played Prime 1 way back when. Prime 2 is my favorite of the series because it had the right about of challenge which is rare to come by when dealing with first party Nintendo games and the atmosphere is unmatched. That claustrophobic feeling when you get into the dark side of the planet as you run from safe zone to safe zone.

I don't remember 2 being that hard, but it's been a while since I've played it. Though I'll agree that if you don't like 1, you should probably stay away from 2.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.

Re: I don't think I like Metroid Prime
By now, I also do not like Metroid Prime, but maybe for different reasons than any other person in this world. In the beginning, I had to get used to the controls (I needed several attempts only to beat the opening mission), but then, the game grew rapidly on me. I loved the music, the locations, and the addicting gameplay. Believe me, the thrill of exploration of the older Metroid games is there.
But then came the Phazon mines. So far, I have tried around 7 times to get through them, but they are just too difficult and frustrating for me. I just don't get through hordes of space pirates, a mini boss, a contamined tunnel, a boss, grab an item and fight my way back through respawned enemies before I can finally save again. And I don't think the game gets easier after this.
I will try it again some time, but I am quite certain that I will give up on it eventually.

And I had hoped that maybe Prime 2 would still be an option.corn619 wrote:If you don't like Prime 1 stay away from Prime 2. The difficulty has been ramped up significantly and has a much larger world.

Re: I don't think I like Metroid Prime
Super Metroid is my all-time favourite game. I'm not one for FPS and generally not one for American-developed games. I've only played through the first of the Prime games and I didn't like it. It feels very "open" to me. When I think Metroid, I think of a claustrophobic maze of narrow tunnels, descending ever deeper into the burrow of a repulsive alien species to confront a gigantic brain in a jar. I didn't get that from Prime. It felt less Metroid and just like a generic first-person adventure.
Now maybe I didn't play enough of it, but don't recall at any time having the feeling of sheer delight at discovering some ridiculously hidden missile expansion in the ceiling of a room. That's Metroid. It's the reward of exploration that defines it for me, even on a second or third playthrough you can still end up somewhere new in the classic Metroid games. As for the difficulty, I found some of the bosses tough going, but again I think that's down to it being in first person, at the time I really hadn't played any FPS besides maybe Doom or Quake. Meh, I'm holding out a glimmer of hope for Metroid Other M, maybe Yoshio Sakamoto will have a little more input this time and make this one a classic for the fans.

alright here's a good example. I grew up on Zelda. But when I first played Wind Waker, I was blown away at the transition. I loved it. I did not get this feeling playing Prime at all.

Re: I don't think I like Metroid Prime
I gave it a shot. I played that first level then started the second one (is that the ruins?) and I was just kind of bored. I remember it being slow paced and I didn't feel very accurate or in control with my weapons. Its unlikely I'll ever give them another chance, which is unfortunate just because I heard so many good things.
