Good for Nintendo! People who dump games on the internet are ruining the gaming industry.

Although I heavily pirate games and I appreciate a lot of what hackers do to make things possible for me, I am with Nintendo.

You know they got bills to pay , and money invested, employees and more then some one comes along and spreads a game for free.

At least let them get their sales, i would have more sympathy if it was 6 months later. Well not in the case of Nintendo because each month for Nintendo games is like the first month, 100,000 copies and it just keeps on going from on there.

usually games go like 50,000 , then 30,000, then 20,000 for several weeks then 10,000 then none.

I guess if people feel bad for him, maybe they should make a donation to help him pay lawyer fees or something of that sort to make things a bit easier. At least some kind of big cash in the bank to use after he gets out of jail(if he gets in jail).
Its like giving back right, after all he did it for you right, he could have pirated it and kept it for himself.

For you guys defending pirating a new game before it is released ("power to the people"), I really don't get it at all.

The developers worked hard on that game and deserve for its release date to be respected and full profits from sales to be made. For those who can't afford to buy the game, we all know it's going to be around $20-40 used within a year. Buy it then. If you want to pirate it, wait a decade until (and IF) it's abandonware.

They made an example of him for a reason. He's taking the punishment for a lot of others out there who pirate games for current generation systems. Blame yourselves, not Nintendo.

It's one thing to pirate a ROM of Earthbound or Goldeneye that has no hope of seeing a re-release anytime soon. It's even somewhat defendable to pirate games in a country where it's next to impossible to buy original copies of games. It's another for a person in a developed country to pirate and distribute a new release (even before it's released!). I don't have sympathy for him.

I would say they were doing a good job. What I dislike about Microsoft and Sony are their attempts to ban everyone who has even considered loading an emulator. Go after the guy who first cracked it and put it up? Sure, makes sense, especially if they don't have a really good reason. Now taking them to court, they might even have a solid defense and win one for the emulation community. Ban everyone who have ever touched an emulator, thought about using an emulator, or touched a console that at some point has had an emulator on it? Not so great in my mind.

Meh, whatever. The guy knew the risks when he did it, and it's not like Nintendo has ever been known to play nice with this sort of thing.

Probably not. Nintendo fans always seem to be the ones suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

Are you referring to that multi-billion dollar industry that keeps growing every year? Yep, sounds like it is being ruined to me.

Seriously, an individual (not a party) now owes Nintendo 1.5 million dollars. That my friend is the industry doing the ruining.

So, I wonder how they caught the guy. Are pre-release games watermarked so they can tell who had the disk that got leaked? Or did he just brag about it on IRC or something?

Also, somehow I don't think Nintendo will be getting $1.5 million out of the guy. He'll have his wages garnished for the rest of his life, and have to live relatively poor. But I'm sure he can get all the free video games he wants, so big deal. Don't know how the law works in AU, but he may even be able to declare bankruptcy and not pay much of anything.

I hope no one at Nintendo is under the impression that this will stop anyone else from pirating games.

But I still think generally in this world to few people have most of the money and someone like Nintendo who could properly afford to loose millions with out even noticing threre main aim is money.so like I said if I had to pick a side I would pick his.
