I noticed this came out last week in the states but I've yet to see anyone actually receive their copy. I tried to play a fan translated copy of the RUS release but it was hopeless.
SOC was an incredible masterpiece, clear sky was a buggy mess.
I'm looking forward to trying this one out.
Call of Pripyat
Re: Call of Pripyat
I suppose on an odd note, I should point out that it was exactly the opposite for me. SOC was a mess when first released, and then became even less playable on my computer after the patches. I beat it and got the worst ending because the game suddenly decided while I was running through the NPP to drop all of my rankings to last place and make everyone hate me. I never got why it did that. I had everything to get the best ranking while in Pripyat, and then I run through the reactor and get inside and the game just decided to not like me.BigTinz wrote:SOC was an incredible masterpiece, clear sky was a buggy mess.
After that I waited a while, patched the game up, and played again. And that time the game decided it would run for five minutes before crashing. I gave up in frustration after a while. I eventually upgraded my computer and went through it again with the Oblivion Lost patch, and it made for a much better experience.
Clear Sky on the other hand has been relatively smooth. I've had to turn some of the settings down due to frame rate drops when I'm in heavily populated areas, but there hasn't been a hassle beyond that. I do want some of the faction stuff retooled a bit, but I've been enjoying it a lot.

Re: Call of Pripyat
Never played the Stalker games but they look really cool. Are the up my alley? (assuming you guys already know my fascination with adventure and stealth games)
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Call of Pripyat
That depends. Do you like sneaking upon groups of unsuspecting bandits so you can lay waste with your sawed off shotgun at close range? Do you tread carefully and watch where you step to avoid falling into warps in the fabric of space? Do you feel comfortable laying waste to hordes of mutants as they attempt to rip your throat out or splinter your mind? Do you like the thought of wandering through abandoned cityscapes, empty military facilities, and irradiated junk piles, looking for better weapons, equipment, or valuable artifacts?RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Never played the Stalker games but they look really cool. If you said yes to any of those...yeah, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is probably for you.
Re: Call of Pripyat
Call of Pripyat has been out for awhile, at least for the CIS.

I haven't even installed my copy of Clear Sky yet. (spent too much time on Killing Floor) Right now, I don't think I'm going to as I don't think my aging rig will be able to handle more S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
WAITHUHWHAAA? What happened to it being one of the first DX11 games?MrPopo wrote:from the GameFAQs boards it sounds like they didn't really upgrade their assets; they just redid the maps and AI and such. So I think you'll be fine.

Apparently it is DX11 compatible, but it's setup so that older DX users can still play.GSZX1337 wrote:WAITHUHWHAAA? What happened to it being one of the first DX11 games?
Re: Call of Pripyat
Ok, on a funny note I actually beat Clear Sky a few hours ago. It's ending was...well, nothing unexpected. Once again, as soon as I've got the money, I'll be picking up Call of Pripyat.
Re: Call of Pripyat
So my game arrived today, and I'll give it a bit of play tonight. The retail edition comes with a map with a upgrade tree on the back and some stickers. It also comes in the new kind of "green" DVD cases which cut out half the plastic, making it flimsy. I'm going to replace that tonight.

Well the first one never froze at all (on 8 gigs of ram:D) for me, and i havent tried the second.MrPopo wrote:Supposedly this one doesn't have near the amount of bugs as the rest.Niode wrote:Think I'll do what I've done with all the others. Wait until somebody fixes the bugs before playing. Especially since the debacle that was the first game where saves weren't compatible in subsequent patches.
Funny how in games we complain about bugs, but in real life it’s usually postal codes messing things up

I'm playing this with Russian audio for the sake of authenticity. Anyone downloaded decent mod(s) for it yet?
