Large displays, am I missing something?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The human eye has trouble tracking lines of text over around 80 to 100 characters. This is why newspapers use columns, and websites should too. You definitely do not want to use a browser on a wide screen monitor maximized. I don't even maximize my browser on a 4:3 monitor that's 1280 pixels wide.

You're right, it's apps like Photoshop that benefit the most from a large monitor. That and games. And it's good for multi-tasking. If you mostly just read text on your monitor, you could consider pivoting it to a portrait orientation. Then it's not too wide, and you can see a much taller column and have to scroll less.

I use macs basically, but yeah I switch every now and then depends on what I am
doing.

So I just have to get used to it then.
I do not think i can set up my monitor in a vertical way, physically , but I did find the option.

Funny, After getting upset with how bright and OFF the colors were, i just started tinkering
and I switch my setting from horizontal to vertical and back, my colors got fixed.

Do not ask me who that happened, i am using SyncMaster 2220 .

I'll be damned, people are still using ICQ?
thats so '98 next to Microsoft Chat

Well, since in Slovakia (and some other countries) it's by far the most popular IM network, I don't have other choice :)
I've got no signature.

For macs it's CMD+= to zoom in and CMD+- to zoom out for text, this shortcut works in any program. (thanks to OS X's superior usability, only need to learn 1 shortcut and it works in everything, Windows is just hell for shortcuts, you have to be fucking rainman to use Windows productively)

I have a 24inch 1152p screen on my gaming rig and I never have any window run at full screen. I can get 2 full size (IE the width of this forum and most other run of the mill websites) windows side by side with my gadgets down the right side on Windows 7. On Mac I just use the green button and have most of my windows at that size. There's not really much need to have windows side by side on a Mac thanks to exposé.

I'll admit it's a bit overwhelming if you try to look at the entire screen at once. But it really shines when you keep multiple applications up at once. Pull the screen closer to you, lower the brightness, and use regions of the screen for different tasks.

Like right now I have my terminal window on the left, web browser in the middle and blackberry simulator on the right.

Try the Firefox plugin NoSquint, or even the zoom from the Firefox view menu.
You can also change your computer's Font Sizes from the Appearance Tab of the Display Properties, or change your computer's DPI
Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> General -> Display -> DPI Setting

am using this the wrong way? Am I like supposed to use only half the screen to browse?
From what you wrote if I understand you right, it sounds like your browser window is not filling all of the screen estate. Also sounds like your Text is too small to read. You can lower the Screen Resolution in System Preferences/Display

Here is a fix if you want to try Safari which comes with OSX:

Hold Title bar with Left Mouse pad Button and drag to left upper corner.

Hold very bottom right corner of Browser window (looks like 3 ///) with Left Mouse pad Button then drag to bottom right corner of screen

Zoom the web browser.

On Safari Default Icons, see the two A and A at the top left? Clicking them will change your zoom.
If you don't have them showing right click at the address bar and Customize that Tool Bar.
Or as Niode posted above APPLE CMD PLUS or APPLE CMD Minus to change zoom.

You still have to scroll the screen with the scroll bars.
