Huh, I have 6 USA SNES cartridges and they all have the slope, I didn't know you had the notch design as well.
Would this make a difference in worth when selling one of the rarer ones? Since you mention the sloped cartridges being newer, there's some picky people out there.

Re: Possible fake Secret of Mana?
My past copies of SoM always had that notch and never seen them with the slope design. Maybe I'm just paranoid since I had a bad experience when I bought Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance for the GBA a couple years back and turned out to be a bootleg.

yeah it's really a bad idea to buy gba games off ebay i have 24 gba games and all 4 that i got from ebay were fakes
now i buy them where i can hold them to see if they are real
other than gba games i have great luck with ebay. igot my sega saturn with 52 games all complete 7 of which were new and 2 extension cords 2 official sega saturn arcade sticks, steering wheel a flight stick and i also got the mod chip for it from nick (racketboy not ebay) all for $242.00 not bad i would say!!

Seriously, don't worry about it. Nintendo just changed the design of the cart midway through the system's life, so games that were out before the change have the notch, and after the change some of those games were made with the change. There's plenty of games that you can find both version carts of. Castlevania IV comes to mind.Lo0kY wrote:My past copies of SoM always had that notch and never seen them with the slope design. Yeah, but how many fake carts have the stamped code? Don't forget, most of the time fake SNES games are using authentic carts. Look at my repros, for example, all of mine have stamped codes on the back.Hobie-wan wrote:Also, as I keep going on and on and on (and on) about, check the warning label on the back. If it has a number physically stamped in it, you can be pretty sure its legit when it comes to Nintendo carts. GB carts with no back label will be stamped in the front.

Well that's true, but we're talking bootleg versus repro then. I wouldn't think SoM is rare and worth enough to bother making a repro. The front sticker on a repro would probably also look different enough due to being hand cut or recreated in photoshop or whatnot to tell. If its an actual bootleg made in a factory then the casing, screws, and whatnot will clue you in too. Realistic GB(A) bootlegs are more plentiful because they're so small and simple to produce.Ziggy587 wrote:Yeah, but how many fake carts have the stamped code? Anyway, good point. I blame the fact that I was still up at 4 and posting.

Lol, it's OK, I do that all the time!
Re: Possible fake Secret of Mana?
I have a ton of GBA games that I should probably go through soon... I got them from various different places, so who knows if I have any bootlegs. Between this, and Hobie's Gamestop topic, it has really had me thinking I should check!
Re: Possible fake Secret of Mana?
Yeah, I was (un)lucky enough to get a fake GBA cart once. I only found out because it wasn't working on my GB Player and that made some one notice it was a fake. Luckily, I put it in with about a dozen other games I was trading in at Play N Trade, they didn't notice.
