Wait, so you actually own the 360 version but held off on playing it because of some additional content in the PS3 version?

It's own thing to wait for a specific version to come out before buying the game, but why not just play the game you already paid for? The extra content has got to be goddamn amazing to scrub something you already have in your possession. Besides, buying another version just gives them more money and shows Namco they can rope people into buying the same game twice.

Speaking for myself, I bought but didn't get around to playing the 360 version before the PS3 version was announced. Additionally, the PS3 version, if localized, would have a decent chance of having the original voices on the disc (like how Eternal Sonata did) so I can enjoy those. There is the obvious extra content. And finally, I prefer having all my multi-platform games on the PS3. I can turn my copy of 360 Vesperia around on the for-sale email list at work for a little less than what I paid for it, so I wouldn't really be losing out in the deal. And I don't want to play through the 360 version, as it would then be quite unlikely that I would play through the PS3 version for a while. I doubt the game is fantastic enough to get me to play it a second time in so short a period.

But that's the thing; they made some relatively significant updates in the PS3 port. A new character, voice acting for all cutscenes, new story sections and optional cutscenes, and a couple of miscellaneous extras. It's just enough content to justify holding off playing it.

I see your point, but I guess I feel differently about these sort of things. If I buy a game from a company and then they decide to put more time and effort into another release of it, I just resign to the fact I already gave them my money once and they won't have the luxury of receiving more of my cash. I can live without all the additional content if it means setting some sort of principle. Too many other great games I can just move on to.

Just out of curiosity, if you haven't played the 360 version yet, how do you know you like the game enough to even bother waiting around for the PS3 version?

I'm sure if they thought they could make money on it, they would release it here, but they have probably determined that they can't. It sucks for us, but Namco is a business after all, and they exist to make money.
How did common sense creep into a thread?

Seriously, people need to read this and understand it. Namco don't "hate" anyone. They're out to make money so they can survive and make more games (and money) in the future. This is what it means to run a business (try running your own some day, and see for yourself). The sooner people stop being angry about things and realise this, the happier they'll be.

Alternatively you can wish for this fantasy world where they release a game once and never again, and somehow pull money out of the ether. Of course the reality is that should they follow this path they'll simply go broke, or move into other more lucrative markets. At which time the fans all complain about it and long for "the glory days" where they released great games to their hardcore fans.

I posted about this on Namco's forum. I believe it outlines my points quite well. Specifically, read the part about Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Capcom, and Atlus.

As I mentioned in this post, why not just release the update as paid DLC? It would be much cheaper, have the same impact, and still comply with Microsoft's exclusivity deal, if it's still active.

Pardon me for bringing back an old thread, but I've spent the last couple days researching the Tales series, and the history surrounding it's development, and I've come to a conclusion; this issue is far more important than most people think. Let me put it this way. There have been 25 games in the Tales Series so far, or 30, including remakes/major upgrades. Only 9 of these games have made it to North America. This would be acceptable, if it were a smaller series, but Namco is one of the biggest video game companies in the world, and the Tales series is one of their biggest series, and one of the biggest series in the RPG genre, selling over 10 million games. To put this into perspective, Dragon Quest, arguably the most influential series in RPGs, has sold 51 million games. I think it's safe to say they're both in the winner's circle. Another thing to mention is that Square Enix is bringing more games over to the US that previously did not see a release. They've already given us every main entry in the Final Fantasy series, and with the coming release of IX and the DS remake of VI, all the main Dragon Quest games will get released in the US, as well. So what does this mean? It means that it's time for Namco to stop living in the 80's, and come into 2010. It's no longer acceptable to deny other regions a game in one of the biggest series of it's genre. Most gamers have internet now, so they will know if this happens. You think you can get away with this, Namco? You think you can get away with denying us games, even in this generation? None of the 3 DS Tales games made it out of Japan; something is very wrong with that. If the company would look at it's sales charts, it would see that almost all [I say almost, because I wasn't able to find sales info for all the games] games in the Tales series released in North America sold better than in Japan. Granted, there's more people in North America, but that's the whole point! There's little reason for them to not release more Tales games over here. Even from those 9 games than were released, the series has gained a massive fan base in English-speaking territories. Devoted fans who will buy each game when it comes out. This is the money Namco is missing. Thousands of fans are willing to buy Tales games, and the company ignores the cash being waved in front of their faces. What's that you say? Namco is a busy company, and needs to work on other projects first? That may be true, but come on, how much effort would you need, or want, to put into another damn "We Cheer" game? They seriously have better things to do with their time. So, in conclusion, Namco is ignoring the screams of its fans, and is missing out on at least tens of thousands of sales. The least they could do is take a step in the right direction, and give us Vesperia for the PS3. At this rate, we may not even get Tales of Graces.

All I can say is. I'm definitely not letting go of my sealed copy of Tales of Vesperia!

I am just glad that we at least got most of the main Tales of series. Missing two PS2 titles and 2 DS titles, and hopefully we are still getting tales of graces.
