I quit Odin Sphere in frustration too.
I've reduced my Street Fighter IV playing out of frustration. I always get paired with people that are so awesome that I don't stand a chance. I really don't know how everyone in the online world is so good at that game. I only win like 1 in 5 matches.
I quit the Battletoads/Double Dragon game on SNES and Battlemaniacs. Both of them just got so unfairly hard that I could barely even progress using save state cheats.

Really? I know I'm one of the few folks that enjoyed Silent Hill Homecoming, but I thought most disliked it because the combat was too easy. It just came down to me figuring out which tool for the job and remembering how to counter each creature. Though truthfully, most enemies can be avoided entirely. But then again, I actually like certain elements of the storyline to, so I suppose I'm pretty odd...masteroftheclaw wrote:Silent Hill Homecoming infuriated me but maybe that was the rabid fanboy inside me having an issue with how the new iteration of my favorite series had come out... It was just a very simplistic game and the combat was supremely odd to me. Combat has never been a strong point of the series, but these battles made me want to throw my controller at the wall. Just thinking about finishing that damn game makes me angry all over again.![]()
As for games that pissed me off to the point of no longer playing...Killer 7 frustrates me immensely. I start, and after a couple of minutes, I just can't play any more. I understand it's a unique and interesting game, but I just can't get into it. I get through a room, and I just want to stop.
Generally I end up beating games that piss me off though. I'm one of those guys who will continue 30 or more times in a row so I can finally beat a cheap boss, and one done I'll save, pull the game out, and make fun of it's mother. You should have heard the swearing when I played through Nanobreaker.
I even beat Super Mario 64, though it pissed me off so much at one point I removed the game from the N64 and bit the cartridge. I tend to avoid platformers in general since they piss me off, but certain ones I enjoy playing.

PS2 Rygar.
I lost count of how many times I fought that winged boss where you're standing on nothing up in the air. I yelled and screamed and cursed at the TV, then I finally beat the asshole, only to be thrown right into the fight against that giant wall of a monster with no chance to heal inbetween, much less get another healing item. I tried fighting him twice, then I quit in disgust and haven't touched the game since.
I know there have been a few other games that pissed me off and I gave up, but that's the only one that came to mind.
There have been games that pissed me off, but usually taking a break and coming back the next day does the trick. The first time I was at the end of Far Cry I kept dying over and over in that last arena until I realized there were snipers that were picking me off, not the juggernauts.

Dragons Lair for the NES was probably one of the first games that hit me like that. I never owned it i used to borrow it from a friend. I know I eventually got past the the first section with the drawerbridge or door that i couldn't figure out how to open but im pretty sure my nes pad was slung out of sight way before the end of the next bit (i seem to remeber a tiny spider hanging from the ceiling always getting me cause i couldn't crawl past).
Recently its got to be Sonic the Hedgehog (PS3). If i only mention one thing that pissed me off about it, it was constantly coming to a standstill on the snowboard when the camera moves and makes the direction your pushing on the pad turn into the wrong way.

Batman Returns for the Sega Genesis because I said I would beat the game, but it was too hard and got lost. This game was not made Konami which was a better port than my sega version. I wish I never bought this game at all. Wikipedia says this,
"The Sega Genesis game was roundly criticized by the gaming press for having substandard-quality graphics and unoriginal and unexciting gameplay with an unfair difficulty level, while the Sega-CD one had some success due to the exciting racing levels and the rock music. The Genesis version was recently added to GameTap on March 7, 2008."

God Hand-I got to a point where I realized even though I had gotten pretty far into the game, it was pissing me off so much that it was just pointless for me to continue playing it. That game was a trainwreck. The scaling difficulty sucked, the randomness of EVERYTHING in the game from whether or not power ups and food will ever appear to the randomly appearing cheap as shit demons made me despise that game. And I HATED the controls too. Mashing the right analogue up as fast as you can to duck attacks was awkward and unintuitive. I personally consider God Hand a horrible blemish on Clover's resume. Compared to Viewtiful Joe and Okami, God Hand was shit. Traded that game in, which I rarely do unless I really consider a game to be worthless
Odin Sphere-The worst, laziest combat system I've ever seen in a game. Even by action rpg standards it was shallow and lame. Got sick of it, traded the game in. When I mentioned that I didn't like the game to the employees at Gamestop that day, they looked at me like I ran over a baby or something. I still to this day don't know why that game was such a critical darling. It was pretty and that was about all it had going for it

I just remembered another, Mega Man Network Transmission. I started off liking it a lot, but then comes that damn Quick Man stage. I dunno, I just couldn't seem to get past it.

Oh God, that reminds me, Mega Man X7, or something like that. One of those later X games, I don't know. After they stopped appearing on the Super Nintendo, I stopped paying attention to them.Flak Beard wrote:I just remembered another, Mega Man Network Transmission. Arrgh! MMX7...That would definitely been on my list. I was really excited because of the jump to 3D, and I played the hell out of it...for a whileAck wrote: Oh God, that reminds me, Mega Man X7, or something like that. Until I could hardly get through a level...much less beat a boss. The 3D engine just didn't work and made things hard as hell.
