Anyways lol

I think that if any handheld could oversell the gameboy it might as well been the DS. Nintendo knows how to control stock so that it is always that close to being out of stock everywhere, to keep the appeal up. This gave it an edge in the long run I believe.

I'm not saying the DS isn't quality, but Nintendo's artificial supply shortages helped. I don't think the shortages were as obvious as it was for the Wii. 2 and a half years of being sold out? Come on. At least it was in New England, anyways.

you're a fellow New Englander eh? Awesome.

Anyway, yes. The DS is great. My only real complaint is lack of full BC. I mean, imagine a DS that could play GB, GBC, and GBA games (without emulation)? That would be incredible.

Yeah it was pretty sold out for a while after it was released up here. Like I said, not nearly as bad as the Wii.

And yes the Wii was sold out for god knows how long. I used to work at Walmart electronics (shudder) and we only got in like 8 every 3 months back then. It was pathetic. And we had the best selling store in the district, so we were actually getting the most out of any other walmarts in the area.

But anyways, yeah I agree that full backwards compatibility would be amazing, but I heard one time that Nintendo's reason for not doing that was 'the DS is not an actual gameboy system, it is a system on its own' kind of thing.

Or we could all just mod a psp and put em on emulator :-P

I've owned a DS and a PSP. As a video game, the DS is leaps and bounds better. (as a media player, the PSP wins).

for me it is kinda funny i have to let time go by to appreciate a system. i go back to them to see what i missed and for me the gba wins over the ds (i am not knocking the ds) because the gba reminds me so much of the snes. where the ds kinda reminds me of... well a n64 v1.5 (and i never had a n64) if ds could connect to the wii and be a "wireless controller" then i might rethink on which is better. but honestly i think the gba just does it better no touch screen needed  . just the little things the gba does make it great like the e-reader, gc connectivity, plays gb and gbc games, you can link up with friends with the link cable (and you are in the same room with them!!!) for that multiplayer challenge.

i think the newer systems are liked more because they have been hacked and can do emulation but that takes all the fun out of collecting games and trust me i emulate a ton of stuff on my mame machine if it runs 90% of the games nearly perfect i have it emulated  in another 8 years ask me again and i might say the nds who knows??

gc connectivity was a great idea that got underused. it didn't help that you needed 4 people with gbas and 4 freaking link cables. wifi would have solved that but nintendo gave up on the idea. the ereader is like selling dlc on cards, or small games via the internet. there's no use for it in this day and age.

and while I did love the gba for being a portable snes, I didn't like the way nintendo treated it. 1 zelda game, 1 metroid game, no new mario game, and 3 horrible DKC ports (with the second being the only kind of good port, but the graphics don't look anywhere near as good as they did on the snes). not bashing on the gba here, it's just my experience with the 2 systems.

as for those interested there are some excellent GB/GBC emulators for the DS which you can run with a flash card. that's what I'm doing.

GC connectivity worked on a lot of games with one Gameboy. The best two, to me atleast, are in Windwaker you used the Tingle Tuner and in RS3:Rebel Strike you used it to command your wingmen.
