volvo...NO turbo...turbo goes your instantly out of 1500$, turbos are great if its NOT your daily driver. Other wise...do what you want

Yep hondas are reliable, more so if you replace the water pump and timing belt like hondas says. Also how about those o2 sensors? You know the ones that every new car has...funny honda and acuras only cost 250$ where as ANYTHING ELSE only costs 80-100. I love honda...but if you want something thats reliable AND cheap to work on...dont buy one.

Hell for 7000$ I would buy a 95 honda...put new brakes on it, put in a new engine and all new add ons, starter, alt, power steering pump, and so on, THEN take the other 2 grand you have left and pay some bills.

Or again, volvo.
Yep, I know im the one ya love to hate.

Anything Subaru. Hondas and Toyotas seem super-expensive to me.

...your says subas are cheaper than honda and yotas? Every new soob I ever looked at was 27k, and honestly I would never buy a used turbo car that was a daily driver. Its not hard to buy a 300$ boost controller and run the car into the ground trying to be cool and then sell it. God only knows how much shaft play the turbo would have in it...or if there would just be a puddle of oil sitting in the inlet pipe

I'd go with a Corolla.

Personally I'd stay from Toyotas for a while, seen the massive recalls they've been having?

While I'm all for domestic cars, I'll hafta agree with lost_within on a point. Get a decent car thats well below budget, and fix it up how you want it. Personally, I don't care for hondas, but again, I'm biased.

Barely any of the Subarus in America are turbos, you're thinking of stuff like the WRX, Legacy 2.5 GT, and the Baja XT, nearly all the others are naturally aspirated engines. My friend recently got a 2001 Legacy Outback with just under 70,000 for $6000, and that sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Not a bad deal, but also not cheap to work on either.

Like the statement above...get an older malibu or impala. A chevy wont get you 500,000 miles. But when parts are literally a half the price of imports, and just as reliable if you take care of it...its worth it. You want a 4 door, look at one of those 2 cars. I bet you can find one with good miles for about 4500. Depending on where you live...I know in VA I see them all the time for 4-5

I'd say to buy a car that costs $3,500, and save the rest.

And you probably already know this, but never go to a dealership saying, "I'm looking for a used car for around $7,000". Never state a price point until you are ready to purchase.

You should be able to find used Proteges, Focuses (Foci?) and Corollas for less than 4k.

If you really love cars, get yourself a fixer-upper. It's a frustrating but very rewarding hobby to restore a car. Upside: Low Cost. Downside: High maintenance.

I recently looked up the value of my 2005 nissan sentra on kelly blue book. The trade in value has depreciated a crapload since last year. It has been a good car and you can probably find one for around $7000.

Considering I did restoration for over 7 years...its not rewarding, it sucks when you goto drive and oops...the belt broke and due to a 20$ fix I am on the side of the road lol.
