Controls make or break a game - especially when you get into the vintage area.
I bought this game from a pawn shop around a year ago or so for $1 after hearing many good things, and after maybe an hour of playtime I gave up on 'learning' a passable (at least) way to control.
So yeah, gonna have to agree (gasp) with OP.
BTW I threw the cart away. Then took it out of the garbage, dropped it in a can full of paint, and let it sit there for 3 months. Then I let my dog bury it. Then when I was tilling I discovered it, took it back inside, cleaned off the dirt, chipped off the paint, printed a new label, brought it to proper playing condition, AND THEN threw it away.
So ha!

Regardless of one's opinion on the game(I wouldn't know, I haven't played it), all I can say is that that showed dedication.Crystalis wrote:BTW I threw the cart away. Played this many years ago, when the Genesis was still an active console. Always got killed by the last boss, never did beat this one. I still own it, complete too
You get used to the controls eventually, if you have the patience(something I think I had a lot more of when I was young). That's really the whole point of the game. Yes, it's hard and I don't blame anyone for giving up on it. I'm not one of those weirdos who thinks that simply being a hard game is a virtue, not if the game is not fun to play(God Hand comes to mind). However, like it or not, I believe the difficult controls were the whole point of the game. It was about learning how to control a vehicle in a strong gravity environment. It would have just been a generic shooter otherwise.
I remember reading a story once that the game was never licensed by Sega, as in it never should have been officially released but was. I know that sounds weird but I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

That sounds odd since Zyrinx ended up coding a 3D Demo to show off the 32X.Gamerforlife wrote:I remember reading a story once that the game was never licensed by Sega, as in it never should have been officially released but was. I know that sounds weird but I could have sworn I read that somewhere.

I've never played this game, but this video was enough to make me hate it.

Re: Subterrania for Sega Genesis
Sub-Terrania was a 1994 game. By that time Sega had long resolved licensing issues with third party publishers (in this case Scavenger, Inc.). The music was scored by Jesper Kyd. Funny because I first heard of him when I got the Assassin's Creed 2 soundtrackHobie-wan wrote:That sounds odd since Zyrinx ended up coding a 3D Demo to show off the 32X.Gamerforlife wrote:I remember reading a story once that the game was never licensed by Sega, as in it never should have been officially released but was.
