Re: SNES Horror Games
There's actually a couple of horror games for the original NES, if you're interested. There's Capcom's classic pre-resident evil horror game, Sweet Home, and the appallingly sick unlicensed lightgun game, Chiller.

Heh. I've played that via MAME. Somewhat amusing for about 5 minutes...lisalover1 wrote:Chiller.
Re: SNES Horror Games
Most people don't like it because they compare Dracula X to Rondo of Blood (what it pretty much was suppose to be). The only reason we got Dracula X was to bridge the story to SoTN, they must have taken a whole day out to make the game.Dylan wrote:It seems obvious, but there are of course the 2 Castlevanias on the SNES. A lot of people didn't like Dracula X, but I actually did, it felt very much like the originals.
But I like it too.

Try playing Pit Fighter. It will haunt your dreams.

There is also Majou (King of Demons) which plays kinda like castlevania just with a gun. It's kinda easy and short thou. Has a nice horror theme going thou.

Re: SNES Horror Games
Thanks for the recommendations. I guess there isn't as much out there as I hoped there would be.
I'm definitely not into ROMs or emulators, but I will be seeking out Dracula X. Seems expensive, so hopefully I can find a foolish pawner. Pit Fighter seems pretty sweet too, I'll keep my eye out for it as well.

Dracula X is kinda expensive, but most of the prices on eBay (I just looked) are just bullshit and probably wont sell for those prices.
You said you're not into ROMs and emulators, completely understandable. But I would like to let you know there are a number of ways you can play translated Clock Tower on a real SNES. One, you can get a flash cart from Tototek (temporary price cut right now) or Retro Zone. If you got a flash cart, you could also put Dracula X on it, so it'd be a lot of bang for your buck. Or two, you could get a Super Famicom Clock Tower cart and have it modified to play the translated version of the game.

Re: SNES Horror Games
There's not much in the way of horror on the SNES. There are a few games that I did find a bit creepy back in the day though. None of these exactly fit the model of modern survival horror, but SNES pre-dates Resident Evil, which has sort of become the model for survival horror games (although even R.E. traces back to Alone in the Dark (PC).)
Anyway, these games left me with a bit of an uneasy feeling
Super Metroid
Out of This World
Shin Megami Tensei I and II (You'll have to play these through emulator with English patches unless you speak japanese.)
Shadowrun
Equinox
Nosferatu
Also, I think Super Ghouls & Ghosts, Castlevania IV, and Demon's Crest are all good recommendations.

Oh yeah, I forgot about this game! Brings back memories.J T wrote:Out of This World
Or put them on a flash cart or make a custom cart for them, as I mentioned above.J T wrote:Shin Megami Tensei I and II (You'll have to play these through emulator with English patches unless you speak japanese.)
Re: SNES Horror Games
Might I also suggest Musya: The Classic Japanese Tale of Horror? It's a horror-based platformer...not terrifying or anything, but you'll likely enjoy the themes. Nosferatu might also interest you.
There's also a lot of horror-property and pseudo-horror-property games that were released on the SNES, such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Bram Stoker's Dracula, multiple Addam's Family games, etc.
And then there's some of the strange stuff that might interest you, like The Adventures of Dr. Franken or Wolfchild.
Of course, I can't speak for the quality of all these...
