why Racketboy?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Guess the most obvious answer might be that since it's his username, might as well name his site after himself.
Personally though, when I first found out about the site, I thought the guy that made it was a dude that played racket ball.

I like dsheinem story better, lets go with that. Any story that adds the Boss in it becomes better.

"Its like when I was driving through rings of fire with Mr. T and the Boss..."

Rackets real name is Nick and his last name is difficult to pronounce when read. So in college is roommates miss pronounced it as Racket, and he has been called Racket since. He added boy to the end so it sounded cool (I also think he did it so that he wouldnt run into anyone else with the same username, but thats just me).
That's pretty much it. I used "racketboy" as screennames as "racket" was taken in most places. And if "racketboy" was taken, I used "racketboynick"

The "boy" was just added cause I couldn't think of anything better to add, really.

But back in college, my friends always ended up introducing me to people as "racket" instead of Nick, so it kinda stuck.

As for using the name for the domain name, it's just poor planning. I started the site as a simple side project and just used my screenname (mainly from SegaXtreme) -- especially since I couldn't come up with a good domain name that had to do with retrogaming that wasn't already taken.

I'd stick with dsheinem story, but if your wife likes the truth then here it is.

Lol --- now it's like when there's conflicting stories of the origins of a band name. :)

Nick is a huge fan of this game and the site started as a fan site for that game, then expanded to include other retro games.

It comes from when Nick was a young lad and was enlisted for the Spanish American war. It was a late night in mid June when the Spanish attacked a small town in Cuba that Nick's ship was moored at. He was in the towns bar and when the Spanish came in he fought them with the only device he could find, an paddle that was used for cooking. The battle was long but as morning broke Nick was found with his trusty racket in hand sitting in a throne made of the bodies of dead soldiers. The legend grew and the Spanish called him Rudio Espíritu (the noisy ghost) but the locals called him the Racket Boy.

When you sign up for a new site/email address/etc and find that "racketboy" is already taken, do you ever wonder who is using it and why did they choose that username?

I find myself wondering sometimes when my username taken. In the beginning, I used to use my unix username which has been the same for about 25 years but when the internet started getting a lot more usage in the early 90s, I switched to my current username which is fairly unique for the most part.
