Mother 3, easily the most emotionally driven game I've ever played.

The entire 12th level of Elite Beat Agents. Anyone who's played it knows exactly what I'm talking about. It was really a curveball of a level compared to the rest of the game.

Tales of the Abyss taught me something very important: Never take anyone's words as definite truth, no matter who they are. Objectify your information, and make conclusions on your own. In a nutshell, think for yourself. It may sound simplistic, but it was something important to me.

The Phoenix Wright games have always taught me how to look at situations from a different angle, and how to use information in creative ways to solve difficult problems. It also has some pretty epic cases in the games; Capcom knows how to craft a good story.

Also, just so it's on the record, the ending of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey completely and utterly SUCKS. I hated it. It was unsatisfying, and, to put it bluntly, EDIT: Whoops, can't use spoiler tags on this forum. Anyway, the game didn't affect me too much, but I just wanted to say that.

I can't believe no one said it yet, but the game that influenced me the most was the pokemon series. The gameboy advance was my first handheld, and the one that I still play is pokemon gold.

That game was pretty moving for me, and I agree that after getting emotionally attached to those characters to see that ending.

Anyways, I'd have to put in the obligatory Half Life series. The amount of freedom in an FPS and the way the story was told really got me. I think Half Life 2 and the subsequent episodes affected me more though... still cannot wait until episode 3 to see what happends.

I can't think of anything else at the moment.

Braid

spolier alert

I played through the game with my girlfriend at the time. it was her first time seeing the game but It was the second time for me and I was starting to "get" it, i think, pretentious as the ending may be. when we got to the last level, the part where the level reverses at the very end and the princess is asleep, my girlfriend asks "how do you get to her?" and i said, "that's just it... you don't." she started to tear up. that's easily the most emotional moment in a game i've ever had.

Spyro the Dragon: PS1
My first video game ever. Childhood nostalgia. The reason why platformers is my favorite video game genre.

Star Fox Command: DS
The vast amount of endings. A few of them being surprisingly emotional.

Super Metroid: SNES
The best game I have ever played so far. Once I beat Ocarina of Time, it will probably take its place.

I havent really played many emotionally driven games so far. I need to go get more.
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

But then I grew up and learned that videogames shouldn't be taken seriously.
