hard to say. how the buttons and details get sorted out is a factor. I haven't looked at Dealextreme for alternatives to sansa. my only concern is the interface, I mean I like drag and drop and folder browsing, I don't sync my mp3 player w/ WMP Winamp or iTunes.
and capacity, I liked that it had an SD card slot. and I have an old clip so I know it sounds fine.

I spose it depends on materials (PS and player used) and how many hours it takes you to do it. and what you feel your worth hourly. I guess I get paid hourly so that's why I say this. I wouldn't want you to feel cheated on the hours.

sorry, that's not a number, but I have no clue, is it an 8 hour job ? 15 or just 3 I have no idea. not to question your skills but as I mentioned, there's the question of how it's done. I mean I could cover a sansa player in solid bondo and carve it to look like a PS, paint it and volia ! but that's not what I was thinking. (actually not a bad idea though  )

what would actually be useful is getting a rechargeable battery into a VMU ! but that's another topic.

If the screen actually worked (and especially if the piezoelectric speaker output sound), I'd pay $60-80 for one in a heartbeat.

see now I don't want a speaker just, headphone jack. I'm thinking of a useful mp3 player, monophonic piezoelectric speakers don't sound all that great.

I don't care if the screen is from the PS or VMU and wired to the players board or the stock player's screen is fitted to the VMU/PS window. I don't care if the firmware is stock or rockboxed, just want the functions I mentioned.

A Mobiblu Cube would be pretty easy to fit inside either of the devices, and the screen would probably be a close fit to the Pocketstation's. The controls are pretty similar too, so with the right positioning it might be possible to keep the boards mostly intact.
Google image search "inside dah 1500"
Cube 3's are still fairly common, but they don't have a color screen like Cube 2's have. I wish I could find a Cube2.

looked it up...

Songs are transferred – slowly – via a unique USB 1.1 cable that hooks up to your PC/laptop USB port at one end and into the headphone jack on the player.
:?

plus battery can't be easily replaced. even with a lithium ion rechargable it's suck royal if the battery turnd out to be bad, which as happend to me on a sony player. so, if possible it would also be good if it used a battery one could buy w/o much hassel. not that the sansa player's battery can be replaced. some of these batterys can only be bought in large quantities.

This will fit

I could replace the battery with a better one for a longer battery life. and it has a color screen, and uses a fast USB connection

seems like a cool little unit too.
so with this and a PS it'd be at least $65 in parts, add a alternate battery + battery holder...probably $70-75 just in parts. reasonable estimate ? I mean I don't know what electronic supplies might be needed.

What if I build one into a VMU, then I can give you an accurate quote, and If someone likes it, they can buy it. the VMU isn't that much bigger than the pocketstation, the point is that it would show the quality of my work, and I could also post guides.
