So all the damned guides have absolutely nothing in common. I can't figure what is current and useful.
I have the hdl_srv.elf on the usb stick but I can't get access to put an ipconfig file on the mem card.
Can I leave a router connected to the PS2 and then connect wireless on the laptop and FTP in?
Can FMCB play backups from dvd?
Yes, FMCB can play backups but they need to be patched with ESR Patcher. You can find all of the tools/utilities at skapps.com.
For the ipconfig file, you need to run uLaunch. Then select File Browser and choose something like mass0:/ If your USB stick is compatible, you should see the list of files on it including the ipconfig.dat.
mc0:/ is memory card slot 0.
So select the config file and choose copy. Then go to the memory card and paste it.
Yes, you can certainly connect via the wireless to the router. It's just all basic networking at that point.
I ended up just throwing the HD in an old pc..I actually had to switch to a different hd to get it to work. The bitch is though that the pc I put it in only has usb 1.1 so file transfer really sucks from the usb stick. Oh well at least it is working.
I think I went down to a 5400 rpm drive though. I wonder if that effects load speed.

I remember that old thread someone pointed at but the whole thing was kinda messy so gonna lend a hand here. To setup your ip you can do it in ulaunch just follow this tutorial:
In ulaunch configuration screen there is a network settings option, set up your ip there. Actually its just writing the ipconfig.dat for you no need to copy the file from anywhere.
After you setup ipconfig then launch the server app and that's it, but I highly recommend just taking out your ps2 hdd and hooking it up directly to your PC as a slave drive because the transfer rate is very slow and not worth it. If you don't want to open your case and plug it in then buy an external hard drive case or a ide-to-usb cable that should cost you no more than $15. Either way don't rip the games on the ps2 to give the lense more life.
To run certain games require specific settings enabled/disabled to run so check compatibility lists for your games and that's about it. You can shrink some games to save space on the hard drive taking out dummy data that is found on the retail version but if you have trouble with this step don't recommend you go there yet.

Playing backups is one of the most used functions of FMCB. You just need the ESR.elf and configure FMCB so it knows where to find it, then patch your iso with esrpatcher burn the dvd and play your game. Again refer to the tutorial on sksapps. Good luck.
