I own all 3, but rarely play them, they aren't horrible, but I guess I just miss the 2D days of Metroid
Metroid Prime would get more praise if the 2D ones hadn't been so good.

I never played the 2D metroid games, but I didn't get into Metroid Prime at all. I heard it was such a great game, then I popped into to give it a try and played a few levels, but it was SLOW. It just wasn't fun. Disappointing too because at that point I was really looking for a game to get into.

Anyone that liked the 2d ones on the SNES should really try the GBA games (although I guess most of you already did). Also, although it isn't the same, there are a bunch of 2d Castlevania games on handhelds that - as is widely known - share many key gameplay features with 2d Metroid games (personally I even tend to prefer the Castlevanias).

Metroid Prime is not bad. It's actually awesome. But games like Super Metroid were so good that it's a tough act to follow.
Thanks everyone...

Agreed, Super Metroid is so good that it's hard to make anything superior to it.

That's the real issue. You can make basically any game suck by comparing it with the few top games.

True, and I do love the Metroid Prime series, so I'm really hoping that Metroid Other M comes close to or tops Super and Fusion as those are my two favorites in the series.

Honestly I don't see much benefit in making such a direct comparison between such different games: a 2D platformer and a 3D FPS with platforming elements. They do share a lot of stuff, just as much as 2D Mario games share many elements with 3D Mario games - but can one argue that a 2D Mario is "better" than Mario 64?
