Those controllers are hard as hell to find, even in Akihabara, Tokyo! I had to keep checking for two months in order to find a controller (for the Mark III, specifically) until I found a 3rd party Hori controller (new in box!).Hobie-wan wrote:If this page is correct its just a standard Atari/Commodore compatible single button joystick.emwearz wrote:Cheers for the heads up Breetai, on the box it has a joystick pictured so I would imagine they are hard as shit to get a hold of.
*edit
The next page says the 2 fire buttons are separate. So an Atari stick would only give you button 1. But if you really wanted, it would be easy to make any stick into a 2 button one since Atari 2600 sticks are only switches, there are no actual electronics in them.
As for the website that Hobie gave, I'm 99% that they are full of BS when they said that, "All SEGA Joysticks and Gamepads have ATARI 9 pin plug and are compatible with SC-3000. " I have an SG-1000 and a Mark III. Both have the exact same controller port and the SG-1000 uses the exact same controller as mentioned on that website (SJ-200) hardwired into the console. Again, it's the exact same controller. My Mark III pad works fine in the SG-1000. But, this is the kicker, the SMS and Genesis/Mega Drive controllers DO NOT work properly in either the SG-1000 or the Mark III. They do recognize 1 of the buttons, which that site did get right. That they missed out on, though, is that the d-pad/joystick is different on the SG-1000 Mark I/Mark II/Mark III and presumably the SC3000. Only up, right, and one button register when an SMS or Genesis/MD controller is plugged in. It's just not playable.
Just to reemphasize, all Sega joysticks and gamepads ARE NOT compatible with the SG-1000, Mark II and Mark III, and I think it's a very likely assumption that they will not be compatible on the SC300, either.
Still, VERY cool find on the SC3000!!! I've seen the odd one for sale here, but it's very rare. It went for around US$100.
