Which RPG would you recommend for ps2 IF..

I will agree with this...star ocean 2 is amazing though. I can't really pinpoint why I disliked 3 though, it just didn't do it for me at all

I would recommend any of the following PS2 RPG's:

Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy X, Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud, Persona 3 are all great RPG's I have enjoyed to name a few!!

Funny how in this case people won't be able to come up with a suggestion approved by most in the forum.

And I'll have to disagree with the closest to unanimous suggestion here, Dragon Quest VIII. While undeniably a very good game, I think it's rather intimidating for an RPG newbie. It's very long and you'll need to grind a lot.

I think out of all the suggestions, Rogue Galaxy looks the most appealing to me. I've actually thought of playing Kingdom Hearts, but my friend told me I can't choose the characters to use and I must use the preselected dominant Disney characters...meaning I can't make Winnie the Pooh my go-to character So I decided not to play that lol. FFX and FFXII looks very polished, but I don't think I'll try them first. Dragon Quest always seem too hardcore for me. I actually tried valkyrie profile 1 before and it really wasn't my cup of tea so I don't think I would try a sequel. I also tried Persona 2 before and it was just too much for me (mind you, that was a decade ago).

Dark Cloud 2 also stands out to me. How does that one play like?

Edit: Oh I really enjoyed Chrono Cross because of the setting, memorable locations and most importantly, the music. Great location design + music composition + art direction made many areas in the game still fresh in my mind. The story for that game from how I recalled wasn't the strongest, but I remember I had a lot of fun playing it. It was art in three form (visual art, music and design). I think even if the character design, plot and story telling sucked in that game, I would've liked it.

I'm not much of an rpg gamer myself. my ps2 experience is extremely limited to two games Final Fantasy X-2 and Kingdom Hearts but I've played chrono cross, ff7 and ff9 on psone.

I think Kingdom Hearts is very accessible but it's extremely repetitive with the combat. There's just way too much attack button mashing that quickly becomes tiresome. It suffers from some of the usual 3d camera problems and all the worlds are really small. The gummy ship sequences are pretty lame too. With all those negatives aside, I was able to finish it.

For some reason I actually kinda liked FF X-2 and I never played FF X. I think that mostly stemmed from the combat system. It's also not very long by rpg standards and the difficulty is low. Then again I find that longer rpgs tend to be less enjoyable whether it be the gameplay or forced plot development that needlessly extend the story.

Dark Cloud 2 also stands out to me. How does that one play like?

dark cloud 2 plays with a mix of action dungeon crawling and town building sim and throws some great story telling devices with some new idea's. it can be repetitive but rewarding and isn't your traditional rpg. so i can see that being a good pick along with rogue galaxy since its made from the same creators, level 5. also some extra notes: the first and second darkcloud games have no ties to each other besides similar ideas so you can jump right into the better of the two.

Another vote for FFXII, its really easy to get into.
