Well I am trying to build up a PS3 library, but I can play comfortably from my pc or the ps3 on the couch, so I guess I would be better off buying the pc version

dragon age is difficult, or i'm bad at it

anyone playing it?
I get the distinct impression I'm playing it wrong. I'll be able to just sleepwalk through 7 or 8 fights in a row and then get ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED on another over and over again. The first boss took me 5 tries to get right and the game hasn't even let me customize a party yet.
I feel like every time the game gives me a choice, i must be picking the harder one or doing something completely wrong. Right now (spoilers) i'm trying to fight through this dreamscape that a sloth demon put me under when you go back to the mage tower (as a mage). I have no other party members with me, and i'm only level 7 so how badly can i fuck this up right? Answer: pretty badly.
I'd switch it down to easy, but I'm sleepwalking through 75% of the fights already. It seems like there is no middle ground. I either crush them completely or I get crushed completely.
Anyone else seeing the same thing? Am i just playing this incorrectly?
I think i might just start over as a different class. ugh.

I haven't tried it out yet...probably not until Saturday. In most cases, a switch of character classes does the trick. I'm having a similar problem with Demon's Souls, but in that I can't get past the first few weak enemies at all!
I assume you've played other Bioware games and thus have a handle on their combat mechanics (from what I've hear/seen DA:O is true to Bioware's traditional system).
Also, I vaguely remember one of the reviews I read indicated that there was a slight difference in the AI console vs. PC. Notably, because the PC can handle more enemies on screen, the enemies in the PC are (generally) weaker, to accommodate for their increase in numbers... What platform are you using?

whoa- i hadn't heard that. I'm playing on the 360 sadly. i'm a little jealous of the framerate the PC is kicking out.
The only bioware game i've played is mass effect, which is a little light on the rpg elements as it combines fps. I have the kotor games, but never got into them.
I'm finding that my main problem is that when i enter a rough situation, my AI friends are really aggressive. Rather than standing back and focusing on one enemy at a time they are all over the place. Or, if one enemy is supporting the others, they don't focus on that character, but rather deal with the closest. If something goes wrong, i'm usually the last one standing and the whole thing is a wash at that point.
It sucks becuase i've ended up being super careful and avoiding enemies if possible as well as saving after every set of combat. Not really a way i want to play.
Perhaps i should've gone with a more tank-like character rather than a mage.

Yeah, I have the PS3 version, and I'll let you know Saturday how I fare, but here are a couple pointers considering my experience with Bioware RPG's (I don't own a 360 and my computer could barely handle Diablo II, so I've not played Mass Effect):
- Make sure you queue up commands to avoid any downtime. Don't be afraid to "pause" the action to choose the best possible strategy.
- Try to react to what your enemy is fighting you with, perhaps you have some useful items that could combat their magic, or buff your stats to withstand, or do more damage to, your enemy.
Well that's all I could come with up off the top of my head that might be general to all Bioware RPG's. Hope that helps in the mean time.

Nickfill, I had the same issue with the Sloth dungeon. I found that there is a specific order you want to progress through the stages are in, but it's pretty good about forcing you into that order based upon what abilities you unlock. The real key is to use the alternate forms judisciously. Each one has a specific strength and by exploiting those strengths you make things much easier for yourself (I was at the same level as you for that dungeon).
If you're having problem with your party being too aggressive try playing around with their tactics. The conditionals are really robust, so you can adjust them to always attack the same things as you.

hmmm... all i can turn into is the mouse, and i have come across a 'hit this door hard' part. I was kind of scratching my head. interesting.
Yeah- i think even though I'm like 6 or 7 hours in I'm still not used to where everything is and what everything does. Menu after fucking menu. I'll try to tweak the party a bit. Can't play for a while though due to work, unfortunately. The game is pretty fun so far.

I'm usually a game scavenger and play only somewhat older stuff that I can buy on the cheap. I continue to buy PS2 games and PC games from the earlier part of this decade and from the 90s.
It's really hard to not cave in and buy a new game though with Dragon Age, Left4Dead 2, Borderlands, Splinter Cell Conviction and all the other cool games being released right now.

you might be able to help me out if you buy older pc games, i was at a local game store and they were selling old complete copies of fallout for like a hundred bucks, any way that is justified??(it could have been sealed and I just didn't realize--but i don't think it was)
