The above has intrigued me. I'll have to try creating the default save on two different cards and then comparing the two to see what's different. It might be possible to swap out saves assuming that you put the key in the right spot. If I find some time, I'll see if I can poke around with a binary editor/difference tool.Gnashvar wrote: Thanks I haven't tried the methods mentioned above, but I'm thinking it's not going to be possible even with a modded GC. From what I read so far it seems the game encrypts the save with the number given to the card when format is given or something like that. So when the game tries to decrypt the save shows up as corrupted.
So I'm basically giving up on it. Now I'm trying to figure out how to copy saves from the web to a memory card.

Found this thread with some info on hex http://www.tehskeen.com/forums/showthread.php?p=25464
It seems the game uses the serial of the card and the format as a seed to encrypt the entire string of data.
Thanks everyone...

Re: GameCube memory card copy
Thanks for the pointer to the thread at tehskeen.com. It seems like this would be an interesting puzzle to solve. The only experience I have with saves is with Paper Mario. I was playing a backup copy of the game and I would get DRE with certain "cut scenes". I wanted to try the PAL version but the save wouldn't work. I had to dump it and hex-edit to change the game-ID in the save. Then it worked for the PAL version. That was pretty simple but Animal Crossing/F-Zero protected saves seem like it would be a good puzzle to solve.
I'll see what I can find.

I tried some of the tricks and all I got was 10 minutes of Mr. Resetti chewing me out because I had to reset. I'll keep looking for other methods.
Thanks everyone...
