£10 each, so £20 including postage in total.

I have a package at the post office waiting for me to pay £12.54 Customs taxes from a package (I think it is the one from weaponepsilon, I did a trade for one of my project vacuum formed cases for his MVS single cart motherboard). When I rig it all up I will know if his board works or not, and the game carts too. If his motherboard does work, I have a great deal, cheap MVS carts, a cheap MVS board! Once I know all works, I will get some other titles, no point at the moment, although I have a watch on a couple of titles if I can get them cheaply, worth a risk.

Looking forward to this project, however I have to stay focussed; finish the DreamCast first, then an N64 (as promised) then ColecoVision, then NeoGeo! I have stacks of consoles to portablize!

If I am not mistaken the Neo Turf Masters is legit but the Puzzle Bobble is a fake.

Neo Turf Masters has an id of 200 - you can see it on the roms.
Puzzle Bobble's id is 83, your says 96 which is Art of Fighting 3. Granted I may be reading the wrong part of the chipset.

Interesting.

From what I skim read, it looks like there are three classes of MVS carts:

Fully legit.

Partial legit - used chips from another SNK game (eg Art of Fighting 3) and reprogrammed them. This means the game runs as it should but technically not totally legit.

Bootleg - using incorrect chips "MX" for example or completely wrong chips that don't look right or different sizes - these are the Chinese knock-offs that may not work properly, ie poor audio quality, etc.

So, if you are right fastbilly1, I have a fully legit cart and a partial legit cart. Given my main game of interest is Neo Turf Masters, this is fine.

If I make the system work, as a project, I want Neo Bomberman (best version on NeoGeo) and a couple of other titles; price permitting.

Thanks very much, I appreciate that.

I have a Premium PayPal status, and can pay in any of the PayPal currencies and/or a trade...

If you come across any (fairly cheap) ones, please PM me! :D

I have two NTSC PSone screens (and more than a dozen PAL ones), one of the NTSC screens will have to be for this project. The other for a RetroDuo.

NeoGeo games I would like (price permitting):

Neo Bomberman, Baseball Stars (either), (Metal Slug but they are expensive, so will forgo), Pop'N'Bounce, Puzzle Du Pon (either).

Well that's not so bad.

The turf is definitely legit. Great price on that one too.

Got my single cart slot SNK MVS Jamma motherboard today - big, as expected!

Image

Actual motherboard is 235 x 113mm, however the main board connects to a second board which contains the cart pins, total height of 90mm.

As far as making it into a portable, one can be done at a total height of 80mm thick. The cart slot would be retained and its surround (takes a bit of force to insert and remove a long double cart board), the batteries could go alongside the motherboard, the two long connectors between the motherboard and second board can be relocated.

As mentioned before, having a game cart at right angle to the portable is lousy, although you could make the system more like 25mm thick that way - balance would be bad, look bad, etc: I am a fan of making a system integrated; and given that the second board can't be trimmed more than a couple of millimeters or so, 80mm thick will be about as good as it gets. Anyway, future project!! :D

I'm personally with you on that point Bacteria; having the cart stick out at a right angle isn't ideal. And in the case of a Neo Geo it's downright unacceptable.

Indeed. I don't like handheld portables with the game cart at right angles to the system, period; however, it is a very silly design to do it with a NeoGeo game cart - they are too big and heavy for that.

Also, the cart might be fat and heavy, but the loading mechanism on the motherboard is designed for the job, and looks neat, daft not to use it - just needs to have a case made for it to make it "blend in".
