Does social networking irk you?

SNS used to be okay when it was only to keep in touch with friends...

Now its weird cause their mothers want to be my "Facebook friend."

Oh, but on a more twisted note, it makes stalking a hell of a lot easier.

I have an orkut account (which is like Facebook, but full of Brazilians) and a Facebook account. I rarely use either. And I don't keep pictures of me or of my friends on them, and information about my life is kept at a minimum.

I feel that's the wise thing to do. Have a damn account so everyone stops bothering you about it but keep it low profile.

What's really fun is hearing people getting turned down for jobs based on their Facebook profiles.

My favorite one was that people can find out your social security number based on information the government must provide about people if asked for and random bits of data from the facebook profiles.

I was very reluctant to add my profile to the ever growing facebook community. I didn't sign up to make new friends but more to shut up current ones asking why I didn't have one.

I don't put much personal info up although I do share photos with just my friends. I absolutely refuse to play any game or take any survey on that site as it would reveal more personal data and draw more non friends to my profile than I want. I would ideally prefer to be a social group/network hermit if I could but my isolation in Japan kind of stops me from doing it.

I can't stand those fake popularity contests. It reminds me of the highschool social cliques which I also took as little part in as I could. I know a few people who simply use it as email 2.0, but the people who use it as the nexus of the internet are just annoying. I also dislike how so many people I meet IRL demand I get an account or I can't talk to them online. What's wrong with email?

I like Twitter, but not as obsessed as some.

Twitter is just simpler and it's easier to follow people I'm actually interested, but not necessarily know in person.
I'm pretty much the same I never really liked Myspace I used to use it to follow some of my favourite bands but it got old real quick. Facebook was ok at first but then everybody was on there even my nan has a facebook account. Like you I only use Twitter now and only follow people that I have a interest in.

That's basically what you should do if you're bothered about the requests (otherwise you can just try to set up your mail to send them to the spam folder, or just live with an extra "delete" once in a while.

The only reason I had a Facebook account was so that I could find out ways to contact fellow classmates when I missed a class for whatever reason. Now that I'm no longer having to worry about classes, I think I'm completely done with that crap.

I dislike how social networking sites serve as means for unfaithful people to cheat on their partners.

To be fair though, I know those people are going to cheat one way or another if they're already predisposed to those things, but those social networking sites make it easier for them to find other cheaters and also give them the medium to flirt with said jackholes.
