Altered Carbon is an exciting (!) quasi-cyberpunk novel from Richard Morgan (the author who slagged Halo's story) and it's as hardboiled as it gets. Definitely worth reading if you like this stuff. now I'm into the second Takeshi Kovacs (protagonist) book, and it's all a good read.
Thanks again for all of these tips guys. I haven't forgotten about this thread. I just got a Kindle from Amazon and William Gibson's "Neuromancer" was my first purchase. Once I finish that, I'm sure I will be back here looking for more.
I know people have already recommended Gibson but I think you should check out Burning Chrome which is a compilation short stories he wrote prior to Neuromancer. It includes the story Johnny Mnemonic which was the basis for the film but better. Burning Chrome is the first introduction of the Character Molly from his later novels.
She actually talks about Johnny some in Neuromancer.
It also has New Rose Hotel which was also made into a film and takes place in the sprawl.

I also have to second PKD. He is one of my favorite authors. Read The Minority Report, it is better than the movie. One of my favorite short stories he wrote is Autofac but it is post-apocalyptic. Captive Market is good too. Hell the guy wrote like hundreds of short stories and I have never read a PKD story I didn't like.
Second Variety is another good one. The awesome movie Screamers was based on it.
I think I have every book by or about PKD. I doubt the short story volumes being sold are complete however.. And maybe there's one or two more novels yet to be published?
I like the hardback collections they have done so far but I think as of yet there is only two of them that have been released? The Philip K Dick Reader hardbacks I think they are called.
I enjoyed Stephenson's The Diamond Age: Or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer. I think it is considered post cyber punk. His book Anathem is really interesting too, but not related to cyber punk.

I'd argue most of his stories turned into movies was better, though I have a soft spot in my heart for Total Recall, and I loved Blade Runner more than Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?, though I enjoyed the book very much.
Have any of you guys ever read Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's Roadside Picnic? It's difficult to find a copy in English, and I have difficulty labeling it cyberpunk...but then again I have difficulty labeling it in any subgenre of science fiction. The only way I have of describing it is that it's the basis for both the film Stalker and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series.
