dont worry that guy just likes to hate on ps3dsheinem wrote:Citizin wrote:The placement should be fine for shooters, much better at that than Playstation controllers.I really like the dualshock placement, but maybe it is just familiarity. Analogue triggers are much better for shooting and accelerator brake controls than the buttons that are on the dual shock.
I also like the springy R2 L2 triggers on the ps3 for shooting/racing - what makes these any better?
I do have it well ventilated, so hopefully I'll be fine.
So I just got a 360...what now?

Re: So I just got a 360...what now?
You are right that production quality has fallen to a lower level - across the board - in the last couple decades. The older systems you refer to though have fewer moving (ie mechanical) parts. That is why they are still going strong. RROD is a mobo design issue...what I'm referring to is more like cd drives, HDDs, etc. I am not personally familiar with the Odyssey, but the 2600, Genesis and SNES have no moving parts of consequence. The eject button on SNES is a simple lever. The NES of course DOES have issues with it's spring loaded cartridge slot.

That wasn't always the way. Mechanical things used to last a heck of a lot longer than they do now. I mean, even game systems! How come my Odyssey, Atari 2600, NES, Genesis and SNES are all still working with no problems? And those are the oldest of my consoles!
Especially in an era approaching digital distribution as the future, we're putting a lot of pressure on our systems to not simply make our digital purchases useless. I don't think we should adopt the mentality that you're demonstrating. Let's expect companies to design things that last if they want our money. . . .
Now my rant is over,

That looks like a steal! I wasn't aware they compiled them for a retail release.
You should check out LoneCynic's post about shmups. I believe he covers everything released. Of course, much of it is only JP release...

Yeah I can't justify getting a JP 360. If mine still works once 360 games are no longer coming out maybe I can modchip it to play whatever games don't get US ports. I'm still holding out that some of these make it stateside.
Thanks for the link. I downloaded Aegis Wing already - it's...ok...I guess...
I forgot about Triggerheart, though. I should get on that - is the port pretty good? Enhanced?

Re: So I just got a 360...what now?
I've talked this game up elsewhere, but if like arcade style golf games (like Hot Shots Golf), check out Avatar Golf in the Indie Games section. It's $5, and features a course editor, drop-in multi-player, local multi, 3 included courses and the ability to share user-made courses online. And there's actually a decent sized community building some really good courses. Anyway, I enjoy these games and they don't get talked about much.
On XBLA, I think N+ is a great platformer and Splosion Man is supposed to be awesome. I've played three levels on the demo and it's quite fun but I don't have the full game. Some of the ports I like are Rez (a must), Outrun Online, Alien Hominid HD, and Doom (feels great on the 360 pad).

Re: So I just got a 360...what now?
I picked up Doom 3: LE which is backwards compatible oXbox game and includes Doom 1-3 and some nice bonuses. Even though I have them all for PC (and the official expansions) for $7, it seemed like a great bargain.RadarScope1 wrote: Doom (feels great on the 360 pad).

Re: So I just got a 360...what now?
Yeah, I was thinking about getting that at some point, too. I'm eventually going to pick up Doom II on xbla this fall (or whenever it comes out) so I'm not sure about the LE. But I've never played Doom 3 before and I really think I should check it out. I heard it wasn't that evolved, but I'm thinking, hey - if I just get old-school Doom with some better graphics and creepier effects, that's fine by me.
