Fixed that for ya!Inazuma wrote:A lawsuit. EA is one of the most innovative and business savvy video games companies out there. Maybe one day we can look forward to another mutant league football game coming out in a year or two from now. By the way, I have never bought a thesaurus in my life.
Anyone buy Madden 2005 or any version since?

If my memory from when it happed is correct - EA offered a ton of money to the NFL and associates to secure that they were the only company that could make NFL based football games.ac_90 wrote:what did ea do wrong i don't see anything illegal there
This is bad because the 2K series (a SEGA produced game which started on the Dreamcast because of no EA support) was quickly gaining ground and threatening to possibly overthrow the sport game giant. 2K sports sold their games for $19.99 with similar/better (depends on who you ask) quality. I remember reading something that said that because of the large amount of football games sold the $19.99 price tag would be profitable... and it was. In response to 2K Sports EA did two things:
1) Lowered Madden's price to $29.99
2) Got an exclusive contract for the following years with the NFL and hiked their prices back up to $59-$69.00
So to answer your question EA offered a large amount of money that companies like 2K Sports couldn't match to create a monopoly.

I have not bought a Madden game since 2001. I've always hated Madden, I like the 2k series and Blitz, hell I rather play Temco Super Bowl for gods sake.

Wowzers.
Lots of Madden haters here. I find the series to be pretty solid.

I like it just because I am a hardcore football fan and it's the only game with correct rosters.Luke wrote:Wowzers.

I did prefer the 2K series on the XBOX back in the day.
I wish EA would just make a new Madden every couple of years and charge $10 for new rosters with every season... hell even a $1 weekly roster change to match with current injury status.

Look at the topic name. I was answering that question.MrPopo wrote:I've noticed you tend to bring up in a lot of threads how you never do this or that. Is it really necessary to inform us of your moral high ground? I'm pretty sure none of us give a fuck whether any of us buy Madden or not, unless we're looking to play a game with a fellow forum member.Inazuma wrote:A well deserved lawsuit. And calling EA one of the worst video game companies is a pretty blanket statement to make, considering how many divisions it has. It's as bad as saying Microsoft is a horrible company simply because you hate Windows. What about their other stuff, like Office or Visual Studio?

Rosters updates should be included in the cost of the game, and be free dlc.

I've always thought that Take Two's pseudo-exclusive license deal to make MLB games (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/t ... w-mlb-deal) had at least something to do with EA's decision. Do any of you guys remember which deal happened first?
