I like Windows, but I also like Mac for internet use and photos.
My reasons:
-more Mame front end options (if you use XP)
-I think its easier to use
-cheaper

Re: Why do you favor the Windows OS?
2 reasons.
Windows play games, mac doesn't
and I hate every single mac user I've met in real life, because they break my nerves trying to convert me, and they WON'T accept any argument.
Mac is better for them.
Plus most of the windows ridicule, has come from the horrible vista. I can't wait for 7 to come out so they can shut up. But even then they'll probably say, that it took 2 years to "fix" windows.
why are all the mac users I know so stuck up???????????????????

I don't post often, but I had to get in on this...
Debating the cost of Macs versus Windows PC's is tricky, primarily because Apple charges for the Windows equivalent of service packs (in my opinion), and Apple absolutely forces new versions of Mac OS on you if you don't want to be left in the dust in terms of hardware support. I'm pretty sure that Apple even supports each specific release of Mac OS for far less time than any respective Windows release.
I use Windows because it's not an Apple product (Really, the fact that Apple fans enjoy being so limited in terms of hardware options just baffles me. It's also sad how much Apple gouges consumers on its hardware.), and Linux has yet to impress me in usability. I mean, Linux has made leaps and bounds in terms of hardware support, but it's sad that I can't install a decent video driver without messing around with config files in a text editor. Honestly, I feel that Linux is hampered by its licensing restrictions, because it's simply unacceptable for certain drivers or software to be included in any given distro.
Anyone who can't get a Windows PC to last more than four years needs to stop buying those piece-of-trash pre-built PC's that sold at Best Buy and Wal-mart...or at least do a clean install of Windows. Really, there are two things that give Windows a bad name...
- the aforementioned pre-built PC's
- hardware manufacturers who can't provide decent drivers
I mean, Vista gets a lot of negative reviews, but - from my experience - Vista is rock-solid until you install a problematic driver (although it's obviously slower than XP in many regards). And no, I'm not using some obscure piece of hardware from a no-name manufacturer. It's a $600 video card from NVIDIA.
Anyway, I'm also a gamer, so Linux and Mac OS just won't do the job. And no, I'm not dual-booting on a Mac, because I obviously have no reason to dual-boot when I'm using Windows. Why? Because it offers everything that I'll ever need, unlike Linux or Mac OS.
The only reason that you should ever have to upgrade a PC (whether it's in terms of hardware or operating system) is to get better performance in demanding applications. You should have to buy a new OS to use your damn iPod with it.
And the only thing that bothered me about that site that you linked to in the original post is that the Mac wasn't smashed to pieces. Yes, I really do loathe Apple that much.

I guess familiarity...
I have to admit though that my first computer was an 4MB Apple Mac. That shit played Tetris and MacDraw and it was awesome.
I have no intention of switching though. As strange as it sounds, I was really turned off by their recent computer advertising campaign.
I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC. Got old pretty quick.

MICROSOFT DOES WHAT MACINNOT.
Heh heh, sorry. Someone had to do it
.
I myself prefer the Mac OS to Microsoft's OS but ain't a hater.
I do think that it is REALLY lame of Apple to not allow their OS to be licensed to other machines, and thereby forcing users to pay their price for what (especially between updates) can be out of date technology. If you want a computer running OS X, there really isn't any competition there. Also, their computers cannot be easily updated or modified, which is definitely a downer

Videogames.
To put it simply, there's nothing I couldn't do on a 486 that I do in my powercomputer except videogames.

Re: Why do you favor the Windows OS?
I believe one of the reasons why some people choose Mac is for the durability. My XPS M170 (2006) has broken 5 times, usually the video card, but the last two times I wasn't even playing any games on it (and I always use a cooling pad). Thank the lord for extended warranties. My soon to be brother in law has always been a mac user (never tried to convert anyone) and his current Mac (04,05) has never had any problems(except for the battery).
Re: Why do you favor the Windows OS?
Not true. The 10.4, 10.5 upgrades aren't service packs. They had hundreds of features. The jump from 10.4 was huge, in that the interface changed (mostly for the better). More uniform windows, quickview (so handy and something that I miss having on Windows), more stable, better support for multi-core processors, 64 bit support, better spotlight (ability to launch any program from it, find files much faster, search the internet, check dictionary, input equations instead of loading up calculator, check wikipedia) all from a simple command+space button press (this feature is invaluable to me) that's just off the top of my head, there was literally thousands of tweaks in that upgrade. Think of it like the jump from Vista to Windows 7, that's the scale of the upgrade we are talking here. Plus Apple only charge £50 (£35 with student discountkevinski wrote:I don't post often, but I had to get in on this...

The limited hardware works in their favour, systems are more stable and more reliable. I never have kernal panics on my Mac apart from when my RAM started to fail, I drove to the Apple store and had it fixed, free of charge while I waited. Tell me when you could ever do that with a Windows PC.kevinski wrote: I use Windows because it's not an Apple product (Really, the fact that Apple fans enjoy being so limited in terms of hardware options just baffles me. More and more games are getting Mac versions. I think the only games that don't tend to get OS X versions are FPS. Pretty much every game made by EA on PC get's a OS X version. Some games like Spore or The Sims 3 have both versions on the same disc. It's simply not true to state that OS X doesn't play games, it does, it's just not every single software developer has got on board yet.kevinski wrote: Anyway, I'm also a gamer, so Linux and Mac OS just won't do the job. What the hell are you talking about? You've never had to upgrade your OS use a new iPod with it. The drivers are built into iTunes. The only time they have forced you to upgrade to use the latest iTunes is from OS 10.3 but that OS is well over 10 years old. Even then I'm pretty sure there are workarounds.kevinski wrote: The only reason that you should ever have to upgrade a PC (whether it's in terms of hardware or operating system) is to get better performance in demanding applications. Re: Why do you favor the Windows OS?
Linux here. If I need games, I have consoles, emulators, and Wine. Windows is a pain in the ass to use, as it doesn't have a decent command line environment. If you think about it, words are the most powerful tool we have for expressing ourselves. And so, using a language to interact with a computer is more powerful than a physical point and click metaphor. Windows also lacks things like virtual desktops (no, the power toy does not count) that make Linux so much more convenient. The only thing that it lacks is cutting edge games, but my time is full with retro stuff so who cares?
