I can't help but agree with you all the way on this one, you have all of my favorite shooters on there, aside from Bangai-O.
Great list!

I agree with this list. For me personally I would ad Jurassic Park 2: Chaos continues. That game had epic music, great action, good bosses.
On another note. Contra 3 is superior to hard corps for ONE reason. Accessibility. I can play that game for 5 minutes or a hour and still enjoy the hell out of it.
And I just remembered.... NO ONE MENTIONED EARTHWORM JIM???????!!!!!!

JP2. Never ever heard of that one. Gotta look it up. [goes to http://www.digitpress.com]. Alright, on the Game Boy and SNES. I'll have to check out the latter.
Otherwise, not too much feedback overall. Sounds like I basically nailed the list in my first attempt. Too easy!

Ummm...Alien Soldier (Megadrive)?
Or is it not considered a "Run N' Gunner"?

Smash TV on the NES supports the fourscore for two controllers per player - proper 4 way control

I was talking about the Snes version of Jurassic Park 2. It is very similar to Jurassic park rampage edition for the gen in the sense you shoot the shit out of everything. So basically its a contra clone... but a damn good one.It is the ONLY good game that I know of made by Ocean.
The game also has surround sound! Definitely one of the best sounding snes games in terms of music and sound effects. The game is soooo DAMN epic too. It has to be one of the most underrated snes games.

Wow MrWhite, that looks like it might be better than the film.

Definitely a run 'n gunner. Quite good, and will be on my recommended list below the top 10. Not quite in the top10, though; for me the cumbersome weapon-switching scheme is a pretty significant game flaw.

Wikipedia listed it as a platformer, but it sure feels like a run 'n gun. If it doesn't make the run 'n gun list, I guarantee it will make an appearance on the top10 platformers.

Best version? There's only two versions of Contra 3, the other being for a 32-bit console (the GBA).
