Most of the ones that I wanted to mention are already here, but I didn't see mention (although it was mentioned in its own thread, which was bumped recently) of Don't Look Back.

I am also fond of Rose Camellia by Nigoro, because I like that sort of control scheme (a la "Black & White", detecting the traces of your mouse - of course in this case greatly simplified). One of us posted about that one, but it was way back.

I also didn't find Passage that good - the idea itself was great, the implementation was not so good.

Finally, another one that was mentioned in a thread here (shall we say, it is a different type of "artsy") "Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar". I smile whenever I think about it.

Ivo.

While googling for screenshots I found a page of interesting-looking homebrew games. Gonna have to do some downloading.

I just remembered something. If you want more Cave Story, there's an active community of modders releasing new games using the Cave story engine. I actually haven't played any of them, but from the screen shots and feedback they were getting there does seem to be some decent unofficial sequels and original games with the same flavor of the original. Many of them look really involved and have some nice enhancements hacked into the engine.

If anyone tries these and finds a really impressive one, let me know. I've been planning to give them a try for a while now but when I first found the forum there wasn't any final/finished games released.

Late to the party here, I know, but Spelunky should be mentioned as well. It's not just a great freeware game, but quite imaginative as well. You may enjoy the gameplay if you were into Cave Story at all.
