This is bullshit, man. I'm a big believer that older games should be more widely available on current formats (like music and movies) instead of locked away in out-of-date chunks of plastic. And this is coming from someone with a collector's mentality. But you should haven't to go to eBay or through the hassle of emulation just to play an old game. Not to mention that IP holders and devs should be able to get money and credit for these as long as they're not trying to rape people over it, like Square-Enix does.

The idea for the VC is great and they did a decent job up to now, but look at the numbers. There's 81 NES games on the VC in North America. That's out of about 750 total games released for the hardware. Obviously, many of those games are shit. But let's say about a quarter of them -- 25 percent -- are worth checking out, which I think is probably pretty reasonable. That's about 188 games, far more than what's been released and remember we're only talking a quarter of the library.

It's even worse for the SNES: 42 out of 720 games in NA (really strong library overall, too). Genesis: 67 games out of 900+ released worldwide. N64: 16 fucking titles on VC!

The idea was great, but the follow-through is really disappointing. I guess sales are king, though, and if they aren't selling we should expect them to keep it up... Boo.

crux wrote:How did any of you misconstrue that quote to mean that Nintendo will be discontinuing VC? It clearly implies that they simply intend to focus more on WiiWare than with VC, which is already the case. Some weeks are purely WiiWare releases.
You're right, but it also signals that they're just not that into it anymore. I wouldn't count on those somewhat obscure classics, which is why these platforms are cool for core gamers.

I don't own a Wii yet. But I had planned on it eventually. HOWEVER, the VC is the #1 reason I'd buy one. So if they canceled it, I'd strongly reconsider.

I don't know how nintendo can be losing money off these games... These games only really made money on their original systems - except if they go the Square route with 100s of remakes.

It really cant be that big of a loss since no company is/was making any money off a dead system... I don't get it.

VC game releases already slowed to a crawl. This isnt really news. They arent getting rid of VC, you are just going to see games come out for it less frequently. They cant release certain licensed games and have already released the majority of heavy hitters, it makes sense to slow down the market, so when they do release something more people purchase it.

You obviously aren't a Mother fan and had your spirit crushed by the big N.

But really it doesn't make sense to NOT release it as it was already translated. Mother 3? Fine that wasn't translated officially but MOTHER was! Bullshit.

I just want a way to play Battle Tanx Global Assault and Goldeneye. Legal or illegal. Mario Party 1 wouldnt hurt either...

If Nintendo isnt going to use the code anymore, give it to the homebrewers, let them make things work. I know it will never happen but I can whine...
