while it angers me that this is going out to the general public, so now they will automatically write off the dreamcast, at least they justified and said they "loved it" but then again if they did truly love it then i wouldn't have seen it on this list.

but i believe Mod_Man_Extreme on his theory. it seems correct

well the nice thing about picking the dreamcast for this is people actually know what it is very few people know what a segway or ngage even is.
Dreamcast had a great launch and from what I recall a great first year and its failure was due more to past failures by sega I think the DC's future could have been much brighter if not for sega's other systems (32x/CD/nomad etc) they should only have ever had:master, genesis, saturn and dreamcast with the game gear as the one shot at portables. oh well its all history-I think they're just in need of more content (which actually they have plenty of)

Mod man's right, this list is saying that the Dreamcast is the 25th biggest flop of the decade, not the 1st.

How is it debatable that the Dreamast was a "flop"?
I agree that it's not the biggest "flop", but how was it not a "flop"?

I like CNet for tech reviews but I don't agree with this about the Sega Dreamcast...

I think it's perfectly sensible to call the Dreamcast a "flop" under the criteria they set. Although I think it achieved everything Sega really hoped to achieve by putting it out, it didn't generate the money required to keep Sega in the hardware business, although it did incredibly well under the circumstances. Well... eh... it really sort of depends on what you choose to call a flop, since even looking at it from a business standpoint, it did have the most successful launch in video game history up to that point. But you know what, the Dreamcast is only BARELY on this list, and they mentioned that they loved it. It's a shame they didn't gush about it just a bit more for the sake of people who don't know much about the system, but y'know it's really not so bad that it's there. I think we love the Dreamcast all the more because it failed, and is one of those things that people in-the-know can use to say "If only you people had believed".
And yes, we all know we sound like dorks when we say things like that.

Cnet obviously doesn't know what the fuck's going on.
They seem to completely ignore the fact that the Dreamcast has sold over 10 million units and was wildly popular at first.

And its direct competitor sold ten times as much.

The list was in order of release, not which one flopped the most/least. David Carnoy (the author of the article) even said
Don't get us wrong. We loved the Dreamcast, which was originally released in 1998 and discontinued in the U.S. in 2001 (it was still sold in Japan until 2006), and still miss it. But it didn't make it.
Now, with all of that aside, this article is still full of fail. The first three flops came out before 2000.
