Re: What games did you play as a kid?
of course the mario games... but zelda really blew my mind and made me play rpgs for most of my childhood. Funny, now i don't have the patience for them unless they are exceptional.
Funny- looking back on it I played through all the zelda games up to Majora's Mask. After that i haven't completed one since except for minish cap. They all look fun, and i've played them all... i just got bored i guess.
maybe that series needs a breath of fresh air.

Re: What games did you play as a kid?
My childhood gaming was mainly defined by Sierra's graphical adventure games. I remember having Kings Quest 3 before I could touch type, and I had to have my dad type at a few critical points in the game. Even before that, I remember playing Mickey's Space Adventure, and Winnie the Pooh in the Hundred Acre Wood. I was 9 years old when Leisure Suit Larry 3 was released. Got a copy from an older friend, and much fun was had.
I kept playing them as long as they kept making them. At this point, there's hardly a Sierra adventure I haven't played. Kind of makes me sad, but there are still LucasArts, Infocom, Interplay, Legend, etc games I haven't played. Sierra will always hold a special place in my heart though.

This is why I'm getting another nes again
Re: What games did you play as a kid?
My childhood was a lot of NES and SNES. I always thought Metroid was a really cool game but I would always get lost. It wasn't until Super Metroid's auto map that I was able to beat a Metroid game. I actually got so into Super Metroid that one time late at night I started hallucinating that there was a couple of Metroids down the hall guarding the bathroom. I had to use my parent's bathroom because I didn't have the ice beam. This all made perfect sense at the time.

Re: What games did you play as a kid?
Let's see.
I played bits of my older brother and aunt's NES games, so I played stuff like Terminator 2, TMNT, Super Mario Bros., Faxanadu, and probably a few others. I honestly didn't play much NES as a kid. I watched my older bro and mom play a lot, and when my bro gave his NES to my aunt I'd play it whenever I visited.
When I got a SNES most of my time was poured into the various Mario games via the Super Mario World plus Super Mario All-Stars cart. Beyond that, I played a lot of Mega Man X, Battle Toads/Double Dragon, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose, and Killer Instinct.
Although I'm more of a Nintendo guy then a Sega guy, a huge chunk of my game playing as a youth was on the Sega Genesis through the Sega Channel service. I remember playing Gunstar Heroes, the Shining Force games (my first RPG's I played to any real extent... never did beat either of them), Comix Zone, Beyond Oasis, Mega Bomberman, Streets of Rage 2 and 3, the Sonic games, Dr. Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine, Mega Man: Wily Wars (Sega Channel comp of the first three Mega Man games), the "Strike" series, Earthworm Jim, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Vectorman, and probably a few I'm forgetting.
Oh, and I played lots of Pokemon, I must admit. Mainly Yellow and Silver versions.
In my middle school days I my younger bro got a N64. I spent my time on quite a lot of crap on the 64, playing Chameleon Twist and those lame 3D Bomberman games, though I do fondly remember playing Mischief Makers. I tried my hand at quite a few of the 64's top titles too, namely Star Fox 64, Mario 64, LOZ: OoT and MM, and Donkey Kong 64. I only beat DK64 and Star Fox 64... which makes me sad.
My bro eventually got a PS1, and aside from playing and failing to beat Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid (MGS was a friends game, never owned it long enough to beat... though my friend had a laugh/fanboy moment during the Psycho Mantis stage), I played Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Ape Escape, Tekken 2 and 3, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Spyro: Year of the Dragon and MediEvil.
One thing that was pretty constant up until the end of Middle school... I rarely could actually beat a game. It's a bit sad looking back... but it sure did make beating a game a lot more satisfying. As I've gotten older I've tried to go back and beat some of my old faves that eluded me before.

I wanted to be a Teminator but they require you have an armored hyperalloy skeleton and mine's mostly recycled truck tires.
