A mod is just that, yeah. A lot of games come out nowadays that are simply excuses to get the modding community active. Counter-Strike, for example, started out as a Half-Life mod. Most mods are simply multiplayer games like that, but there are a few total conversions, and other mods that tweak the insides of other games--there are mods for Oblivion and Morrowind that can totally change the games around, and for the better, for example. If you haven't dug around inside mods, especially in mods for Half-Life or HL2, then you're really, really, really missing out. There is some gold out there.

You dont know how right you are. The more I play NeoTokyo the more it feels like a slower counter strike, and little else. The game may have been severely overhyped.

Yeah I never found a D2 mod that was decent.
