This is my point exactly why it should it should be defined. When it came to the Xbox, PS2, Gamcube generation for the first time people DID pay attention to what games came out on what system. If it was crossed platformed I would choose Xbox first because of Xbox Live.
I never used XBox Live, so there is no argument here. I refused to pay to go online, mostly because I rarely play online. If you say that it made all those games better, then I believe you. Of course, it's impossible now to go back and check.

GSZX1337 - I did forget Orta, it is one of the reasons I still have an xbox... However Butcher bay was an Xbox game first, pc game second.

h8b1llg8ts - I know Xbox live is a defining feature of the Xbox. Which is why many of the best games were only further enhanced with the service. When the article is further along Ill shoot you a copy to give it a once over - Thanks.

enderfall - Kotor, Fable, JSRF will all be added. Shenmue Ill toss around with the others. We try to keep the list to under 20 titles, so if there is space Ill just sneak it in anyway.
I agree somewhat on your postion for multiplatform games. However if a console got a superior version that many people associated with the console, ie Hunter the Reckoning Redeemer for the Xbox or Beyond Good and Evil on the Gamecube, it is more of a canidate for the list. If nothing else they will be added as honorable mentions.

the King - Any specific sports titles that you and your buddies sought out?

ThatCrazyGu - I forgot about Forza and PGR, thanks. Psychonauts and Ninja Gaiden Black Ill pass around with the others.

nickfil - You bring up a valid point about the live arcade, much like h8b1llg8ts. We will add it in as a title. But do you really think the Conker game was that good?

Cassidy - The MechAssault Series will be added - thank you

However sometimes we get stuck in a rut and need some help. Thats where yall come in. For the past few days we have been working on the Games that Define the Gamecube and Xbox and have hit a crossroads. So instead of alot of emails back and forth on the subject I thought I would just ask yall what games did you think defined these consoles.

List thus far:
Halo series
Dead or Alive series
Crimson Skies
PC Ports – ie Morrowind, Ghost Recon, etc
Enhanced PS2 Ports – ie GTA3, MGS2, etc
Riddick Butcher Bay
Steel Battalion
Tom Clancy titles – including Splinter Cell, Rainbow 6, and Ghost Recon
Brute Force
Kotor
Fable
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Jet Set Radio Future
Forza Motorsports
Project Gotham Racing Series
Mech Assault
Xbox Live/Xbox Live Arcade

But what is your take? And we are trying to stray from multiplatform titles, except those stated to be the best on the console.

Actually, all but Steel Battalion LoC campain, most Maddens, and some Burnout games are still online. In fact you can still get all the free content for oXbox games and even purchase the new maps for SW Battlefront II that came out a year ago ...

Yeah, I totally didn't think about Madden, but it was extremely popular on the Xbox.

I also say the enhanced ports need to stay on, what with GTA3, MGS2, Genma: Onimusha, Silent Hill 2:Restless Dreams, the Fatal Frames...yeah.

Just looked it up. The PC version was a port. Are you going to count games that were ported to or from the PC as games that defined the console?

Star wars games, (kotr series mostly)
Fable
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Dead or Alive 3
Doom 3
Halo (though I don't like it, it clearly defines it)

Everything else that I feel was any good was cross platform. Though XBox ports usually tended to be great.

A lot of gamecube or dreamcast ports will be ignored on my lists because I tended to favor those systems while shopping (ie: Jet Set Radio, Shenmue 2, Soul Calibur 2, etc)

A lot of these may be more suited to a hidden gems list than defining games but here goes anyways.

Geometry Wars (I thinks it's worth mentioning on it's on because of all the sequels)
Otogi
Metal Arms
Metal Wolf Chaos
Crazy Taxi 3
Conkers Bad Fur Day
Far Cry Instincts Evolution
Half Life 2
Outrun 2/2006
Live Arcade (worth mentioning as a service, but I can't think of any stand out games)
Sega Soccer Slam
Thief 3
Phantom Dust
