LOL, it's much worse when we spaniards get a spanish character in a fighting game. ONLY bullfighters and/or stupid names. Lawrence Blood from Fatal Fury (Lawrence Blood??? Spanish??? Not Carlos López, no no... Lawrence Blood, no less), Vega from Street Fighter (ok so Vega's a spanish surname but what's with his looks and gay manners? And he was called Balrog in Japan which was worse, lol), and that new spanish character from Tekken 6...

Mexicans don't get much better. El Fuerte (SF4) and El Blaze (VF5)... and the old T.Hawk from Super SF2 who had NOTHING to do with mexican natives, oh well.

I wouldn't say guys like El Blaze are really that insulting, because they're really extensions of the lucha libre wrestling competitions. And if you know much about lucha libre, these characters are actually modeled very close to the event. Luchadores are also pretty popular, going back to two of the most famous, El Santo and Blue Demon, who back in the 60s and 70s starred in films, comic books, and even a cartoon series.

haha yeah, personally the el fuerte (dare I say?) storyline, in sf4 was insulting to my intelligence.

well my country has only had 2 characters represent it, sophitia andcassandra from soul calicour. now ok their gear, kind of reminds you of ancient greek clothes, but for effing sakes it's sophia, not sophitia. it's like taking the name john and turning it into Johnousious

Brazil fares better. There's Blanka, which makes no sense at all (the dude lived in the forest and became green, alright). But then there's Eddy Gordo and Christie Monteiro, who are cool characters. Though I'm yet to find a capoeira practicing girl as hot as Christie. Indeed, I'm yet to find any girl practicing capoeira at all. But I digress.

Now, while "Monteiro" is an actual surname, "Gordo" is just funny (Eddy Fat?).

But well, I can't complain. I'm now watching an anime called Michiko to Hatchin, which is set in a country based primarily on Brazil. Some characters have Japanese names with Brazilian surnames, but some just have plain funny surnames, like the series protagonist Michiko Malandro. If you told someone that was your name, you would just be laughed at. The city names are funny as well (for example, Cidade de Batata, which means, uh, Potato City).

There are a few instances of bad Portuguese on the series too, but overall letters, signs and newspapers are written in good, completely intelligible Portuguese. Anyway, I think I feel worse for the English speaking folks who listen to the Japanese people attempting to speak English. It is painful sometimes.
