It's only slightly related, but I guess this is less obstrusive than creating a new thread...
...I found an unused copy of the 64bit version of XP at work, and have heard that it could offer a few benefits in performance over the 32 bit version. I would love to install it on top of my 32bit incumbent OS, but I'm still on the fence
...what kind of sacrifices do I have to make? I no longer use any Dos-based programs so the lack of 16 bit support is not a problem, but for 32bit software that will only run thru virtualization, is the performance hit going to be significant? (I'm still worried about games, of course. I don't mind Frames Per Second reductions in my excel spreadsheets.)
Of maybe I can just partition a new drive out of my current one and dualboot the 32 bit and 64 bit.

Re: Vista 64 incompatibility
I haven't noticed any performance hits from running 32-bit binaries on a 64-bit OS.

Re: Vista 64 incompatibility
I installed XP 64 while racketboy was down.
I'm testing it now, I don't feel any performance hit with 32 bit programs, nor do I feel any speed increase (except for Dolphin's 64bit build). Drivers are also very easy to find now, considering that I don't have a newish PC.
I checked with the DPC latency checking thingamajiggie, though. My old OS had problems with dpc latency spikes reaching 16k ms. Now it's consistently below 200 ms, even when I have several programs running. I guess if I'm going to do some realtime editing and streaming of audiotracks, the 64 bit OS would be beneficial.
