Word up. I have the same mem card since the system CAME OUT. Even the original PS2(fat) I bought it for died out while that mem card is still making moves AND I still buy new games... I wonder the day I fill that joint up. I will shed a tear.

ANYway... you said you were just getting into video games so I would suggest going WAY back to Super Nintendo if you don't mind 2-D graphics. That's another library that can't be stopped.

Definitely get a ps2. I'm finding people on Craigslist who are getting rid of them for as low as 20 bucks with cords and controllers. You can easily find great games like shadow of the colossus, the ratchet and clank series and the jak series for ten bucks at used game stores now. The ps2 library is indeed massive.

really what kind of RPGs do you like? japanese or american?

if you like american/d&d get an xbox and kotor, ES3, jade empire and kotor 2.

if you like japanese get any RPG made by square or atlus.

Dreamcast/PS2/GC/X-Box

What else would a gamer need?
I would get a PS2 over Xbox due to massive amount of great titles.. but if you have a more flexible budget I would definitely buy all consoles from last gen like I did to have best of all game selections... 8)

For the memory card issue, I hesitantly recommend getting a 64 MB memory card. You will probably want to two so you can back up your save data every now and again, and you will want at least one of the official Playstation 2 8MB memory cards, because some games are incompatible with the larger memory card for some reason. Be wary of the 64 MB card though. Some people say it is not compatible with the slimline version, but it works fine on my fat original model PS2, with the exception of a few incompatible games. Even with the problems though, it is sooo nice to be able to store all my saves on one card.

I have long believed that if I were to only get one of the PS2 / Xbox / NGC systems, it would have to be the GameCube. For its low price, great controller, high number of amazing games (Metroid Prime is love) and availability of accessories, its a must-have. Pick one up ASAP.

I think I have become a console addict after getting a PS2 for free I decided to go buy a Xbox from my local Gamestation for £20 with a controller and PGR2 :D while I was there I picked up a NGPC 8) and I'm going back tomorrow to pick up a NGC, I'm also looking for a Dramcast  even after buying a DC I will still have spent less than the price of a used Xbox 360.
