Original NES problem...unusual? *update...new problem*

I had this problem when I replaced my 72-pin connector. It's not that the screws are too tight, though loosening them is a temporary workaround. Basically there's this plastic "cradle", and one edge of it slips under (or into, can't remember) another piece of the system. It's a really easy fit to overlook. If it doesn't align correctly the "cradle" will warp, causing the tray to not latch properly. Try opening the NES and examine that plastic cradle every which way and make sure it fits right in and is locked in place and that it isn't warping. If it's lined up correctly you can screw the screws in pretty tight with no problem.

Thanks for all of the replies! vlame, Marurun, Xonticus and MyNESstayFR3SH, you guys were right on the cradle warping and locking pin not locking properly. I've opened the NES and found that the cradel IS warped. It is warped so much that the locking pin barely touches it. I have tried to put something between the plastic of the cradle and plastic of the NES bottom shell to straighten it out, but the shell plastic is weaker so it bends rather than the plastic cradle. Anyone have any ideas to this new problem? I'm thing of using a heat gun and try to straighten it out, but, I'm not really sure I want to go that far yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, remove/detach the cradle and reseat it, and make sure it's connected properly. When I first replaced my connector I thought I had it right, couldn't figure out another way to do it, and used it that way for a few months. I finally opened it back up and fiddled with it a little more and found I had to get a little plastic lip on the front edge of the cradle in just right. Once I did that the cradle stopped warping and fit just perfectly.

Pretty much this. The tab is on the bottom of the spring loader, it slips under the NES circuit board and dust shield.
The front two screw holes of the spring loader should be flush against the circuit board. If there is a noticeable gap between them it is not seated correctly.

If you slip the spring loader onto the 72pin connector before you put the circuit board into the plastic case you shouldn't have a problem. I have one apart right now so maybe I will snap a few pictures for ref.

Thanks guys! I have the NES apart again, so I'll definately try these methods. BIZ, please do! I'd love to see EXACTLY how to fix this!
