The SNES version of Raiden is largely unimpressive. I'd avoid it.

Yeah... it's one genre (along with beat em' ups probably) that the Genesis actually had over the SNES.

I think I prefer it's version of Thunder Force III though (AC) over its Genesis counterpart.

Raiden is an awesome game, but it is preferrable to own the Playstation1 version if you can get your hands on it. It is called Project Raiden and also has the only home console version of Raiden II on the disc as well. Otherwise, Raiden Trad is an acceptable version of Raiden 1 if its all you can get your hands on.
