Just to make sure that I understood this correctly, there's no 98% complete version floating around on the internet yet.

That is the story. Some suspect that the team is just saying this to cover their ass as far as the C&D goes.

But yeah- this is probably only a 75-80% build.

Cannot seem to get this mediafire link to work, says the file has been removed...

I remember when the news broke, I said that if Square wanted to learn how to gain ground in the West (which, from most accounts, is why the bought Eidos), then they should take a look at the way the best of the West would deal with such a thing.

When Square hears of some group hacking one of their older games to make a new game, they unleash the lawyers. When Valve hears of some group hacking one of their older games to make a new game, they give them a job.

Seriously, by silencing this game, Square has shot themselves in the foot and pissed off a lot of fans, including the very talented fans who were making this game. If Square had any intelligence, they would have given this group of hackers an offer they couldn't refuse. Join us, finish the game, port it to the PSP and/or DS and profit - or abandon the project altogether. Square would have a new game that they didn't even put any work into that they could profit off of, and the fans would get a new entry into a beloved series. It's win freakin' win, and Square was too stubborn to see this.

To be fair, the western mentality is very different from the eastern mentality. I doubt very much that such a thing would even occur to the higher-ups at SquareEnix, much less be acted upon.

Even so, Square could learn a thing or two. I think it is safe to say that Valve has a higher "fan-to-hater" ratio than Square does, and for good reason. They encourage fans rather than silencing them.

so with the rom only being 75-80 or possibly 98 % percent finished, what exactly does that mean for the gameplay? does it mean that once you get almost to the end of the game it shuts down or does it mean that its still a little buggy? I would hate to play this and get sucked into the story only never to find out what happens in the end.
