I like my CD based games to be complete as well... I don't like not having a manual, inserts, etc.. If it's carts I would like them to be complete but not a big deal NES/SNES, etc.. As long as carts have labels that are complete and have no writing, markings, tears on them.. I like to go to thrift stores, pawn shops, flea markets, and ebay online auctions to always keep adding to my collection.. On average, I can sometimes up to 10-30 games/month depending on how cheap I get 'em and my budget..8)

As for multiplatform it comes down to which version is better: controls, extra modes, etc..

Like everyone else, I think cd based games have to be complete with case and manual. Unless of course the game is just really really cheap and too good to pass up. I haven't really run into a situation where I had to decide which platform to get a title for, but I know that if the case were that the ps1 or ps2 had a slightly inferior version, I would probably just get it for a sony platform. This being simply because it would be much easier for me to get access to a playstation in the future should something happen to my consoles. Like if my sega saturn crapped out, or dreamcast died, I would be able to easily find a ps1 or ps2 in the future then a dreamcast or sega saturn. Anyone else agree?

I'm not sure. Saturns are a lot more rare (and expensive) than PlayStations but I see Dreamcasts about as often as other older consoles (Genesis, N64, etc.) and they're never usually more than than $25 or $30 unless the store is seriously price-gouging.

I also like browsing flea markets, swap meets, pawn shops, thrift stores and garage sales, etc. for classic games. In general, it's easiest to find great deals on rare games when the sellers aren't attentive to what they're selling. As for multi-platform games, I'm not really that picky. If one version is more flawed or crappy-looking than another, I'll opt for the better one or if it's on a console I have a greater affinity toward but otherwise, I don't think about it.

It's important that CD games are complete for both look and utility (CDs don't protect themselves). Once in a rare while, if it's a very cheap game that I just want to play and can just slip into a CD case, I might let it slide (I'll eventually track down a copy w/ case if it's a game I really enjoy). Carts are understandable since they're old and most came in easily-destructible cardboard packages. Also, carts in themselves are pretty durable so the box isn't usually a requirement. I don't really pay attention to how many games I buy in a month. I guess it averages out to three or four, maybe?

If it isn't complete (cartridge or CD), I don't even bother anymore. I've got a lot of loose crap around here, so I reserve room for the complete stuff now.

When you run into a multiplatform game will you buy all of them?

an example would be Braindead 13 / Herc's Adventures / Flashback

Do you make sure the game is complete if it's a cd based game and a cart. based game?

How often do you add game(s) to your collection.
I never buy all versions of a multiplatform game. Then again, I'm not the sort of collector whose goal is along the lines of own all "Metroid" games. I guess that depends on what your collecting goal is.

I usually only buy complete games. Why? Because I want to own something that holds value, I'm a little anal when it comes to collecting, and I can't control my completist obsession. Aesthetically, I'm also a sucker for a full box or case that actually looks good on a shelf.

As for a collection strategy, the best deals are lots with consoles and a bunch of games. I'd start that way to build up a hardware collection (including some of your favorite games for the given system), and from there I'd cherry pick whichever additional games you really want.

Those are so really great questions and I see a lot of great responses you can use.

For me when it comes to cross platform I look at preformance and bonuses. For example games like Capcom vs work best on the Saturn vs PSX. But do your homework and don't be afraid to ask people their opinion. Everyone here, for example, were in the same boat and there is a great wealth of information out there. Also, for cross platform it depends on your purpose. For example, with a 4 year old daughter name Mileena I have to get every MK game on all systems complete. I also, have to consider that I don't want her playing her favorite game Sonic on any system she likes. She knows not to play Sonic Jam for the Saturn but to play it either on the 360 via XBL or Genesis Collection. Or via VC on the Wii.

As far as complete games that depends on you. Do you want to look good or do you just want to play. Again, going back to my example. With children may want collection to look good because time to play is not on your side. What about space issues? Do you have room or even the money to spend on a good collection?

For me complete is the only option. As far as CD based goes. With cart based games I don't have the will to spend a couple Bens on a complete Zelda NES. But since most CD based games are cheap right now I make the effort.

The first thing I would do is answer the questions above and then do some research. Make a budget and game list and go from there. Also, now is the time to work on last gen stuff since GS and others are getting rid of their library. You can find some great buys out there then work on the other gens from there.

Good luck and welcome.
