Oh yeah, 'cause being forced to play the horrid Knuckles and Tails levels is SO much better.
Agreed, the only reason I beat SA:2 was because I wanted to be able to go into level select mode, and play through all the Sonic stages without any BS 'variety' stages.

Remember back in S3&K when Knuckles was interesting and fun to play, even though he didn't do so well against a couple of the Robotnik bosses? (damn your tiny jump!)

Being the reason I bought a Dreamcast (still one of, if not my favorite console) and the one game I bought on launch day, the first Sonic Adventure bears a lot of sentimental value for me. Most importantly, it was a thoroughly enjoyable game. I thought the intertwining storylines and a vast majority of the level designs and gameplay were incredibly solid. Yes, the Sonic levels were by far the best but I loved exploring the Adventure stages, too.

That said, I absolutely can't disagree about Big. He's even more annoying than the other abysmal shriek-fests of Amy, Rouge and those other makeshift hedgehog/echidna characters combined. Of course, he's hampered more by the fact that his gameplay is ridiculously tedious and mind-numbing. The one saving grace is that you only have to play through his story once to finish the game, making his segment fairly easy to ignore in the long-run. Plus, it doesn't actually take that long to play through (it just feels like forever). Anyway, he really sucked but I didn't think his presence was too damaging to the overall quality of the game.

I think the Big levels would have been far more enjoyable if you could play them using the fishing controller.

They botched Tail's levels, but I used stage select to replay Knuckle's levels. Apparently they change the item locations each time. Its amusing.

Sonic and Tails levels in the original were great. Big's levels I was stuck on simply because I had no idea what the point was. They did alright by him in Sonic Heroes.
