you said it all already.
What is makes me sad about this story is the uncle. He was really trying to do something nice for his 12 year old nephew and didnt have lots of money to do it with. He tried to make it happen but with a saturn he likely didnt succeed very well. I only wish he had been able to pick up a gamecube or ps2 for the same money and then the kid would have had something to really have some fun with. Hopefully the child appreciates it and makes him feel good about the gift he receives. Some kids arn't lucky enough to have any video games or family who give them gifts.
I think the lesson to learn here is that if you have the knowledge that can make a difference in someones life, then you should try your best to share it with them. In this case, tell the uncle that a better fit for nephew would be a more modern game system that has more current games the kid will really enjoy for a comparable amount of money.

If you still had the guys phone number or email maybe you could contact him and to take back the system and help him get a good deal on a different gift for his nephew. I know that sounds corny but it might make be a big help. I think that would be really nice to at least offer.

Kinda curious why he choose a Saturn and not like a Dreamcast -- especially considering the price.

Honestly, this guy doesn't strike me as knowing much about game consoles. He probably was just searching Craigslist for whatever was available and saw our boy's offer.

Nail on head.
The 'uncle' is probably jamming on his retro system even as we speak.

This thread made me feel akward.
I really hope the kid at least acts like he likes it.

I think maybe the uncle used to play this back in the day, and when he couldn't offer the ps3, he remembered the Saturn.
There is something wrong with that story. Lets really face it, the Saturn is not popular and its not really recognized by most people and its expensive considering its specs, games, and support. Why would he chose a Saturn and not PSX? or a Gamecube I heard somewhere the price got down to $50? Even a $100 PS2 , they are all amazing deals. Why would he choose a Saturn? Hmmm....
Maybe the uncle is a retro gamer himself and wanted the nephew to enter that field. Any how, if you want an advice, anything you are not going to use is better in the hands of some one else. You can have your '69 car or whatever, but if it is collecting dust for years I believe that is called hoarding I think. Its no use with you either.

I tried this with my brother. He grew up on SNES and skipped the next generation because of high school and girls. Just like me with the PSX and N64. But I realized my error and found myself back into retro gaming.
So to get him back on track I gave him a oXbox with Halo, Jet Grind Radio Future, Rainbow Six 3, Strangers Wraith, and 12 months of Xbox Live. Instead of the 360 he asked for and knew he would use that much. Well Christmas came and went and he traded in all but the Halo game for a 360 and Fable. Even after I told him that the oXbox has a great gaming library from which the 360 has screwed up.
