You're right, and I should have clarified, but the emphasis was that most HDTVs lack the support for fast upscaling - hence why some televisions even have a "gaming mode" to begin with. I've only ever heard of a single television with gaming lag in mind during its production (or at least in its advertising). Devices like XRGB-2+ and XRGB-3 with a firmware upgrade likely have the best bang for the buck (some better pieces of hardware cost thousands) when it comes to upconverting low resolutions with minimized lag in mind.

Out of curiosity, what's in the article exactly? I've done a ton of research over the last year about various types of televisions, resolutions, picture quality, lag, etc., in regards to video games. It's hard to find all the relevant info to all the choices out there - especially for someone with little experience in the subject. An article with all those issues in one place could have saved me a lot of time. As it is, my ideal setup would probably involve three televisions (SD CRT, RGB monitor, HD CRT), not to mention something to get VGA on the HD CRT (rather than yet another screen). Two more televisions and I would have a Zelda: Four Swords setup.

Two steps ahead of you Crux. I desperatly need to upgrade my gear, but the packrat I am just keeps getting stuff - ie the two pcs I pulled out of the trash on the way home from work last night...

HD projectors are almost never CRT-based (I'm not certain there are any out there any longer), so even if they corrected the contrast problem they wouldn't work with the way the light gun wants to read the screen.
