Anyone pick up DS-i today?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I'll probably pick one up once they are crazy cheap. Like dirt cheap.

Once my roommate picked up the ds lite I made the upgrade too. The bigger brighter screen looked fantastic and made the old ds look like a dinosaur.

Dsi vs ds... meh. I hear there may be some downloadable exclusive games for it. But.... nintendo doesn't exactly have a reputation for following through very well with this kind of thing. I'm waiting.

I would like one especially since my DS has gone missing and I can't find it (or someone stole it from me....) anyway I'd like one but am not sure I will get one anytime soon (I blame college, my car and a desire to buy older games and machines first..)

You forgot Gameboy-Gameboy Pocket-Gameboy Light-Gameboy Color.

Well, in the Gameboy world they actually do have a reputation for following through. See the Gameboy Color, where the first carts would work on original hardware to ease the transition, and then they started releasing color only games.

You have to admit they had it going well for the Gameboy series. But the man who came up with the designs and such (same one who made the virtual boy) has been dead for awhile. Its someone else (or several others) this time around.

I don't see the real reason to discuss getting it or not. We don't have any DS-i ONLY games to look at, all we see are the extra hardware specs (x4 more ram and more than x2 better processor) hiding in the spread sheets, and you have the commercial look on the system... you see the cameras, features, and know about the new firmware system, progs built in, and the upcoming DLC from the virtual console for it. But don't know nearly any real content that will be offered in the coming months at all. Its interesting how Nintendo isn't treating the system to like 'launch' titles and the like, I suppose it would be because it was already released in Japan only due to the less DSLite sales over there... Weird imo. Money train must keep rolling? What needs all this constant revenue for them anyways? A super awesome mega ultra system that will blow our minds? (mind control system? yes plz lol)

It's too early to decide. Hype was never well-informed, people find out later just how much it was worth buying at release.

If you want to know what I'm doing about it though, heres how I handled the first creation of the DS system: I ignored it completely. I didn't care about the nintendogs or metroid on the ds, I just kept a sharp critical eye on it.. once I heard about the DSlite I was finally interested. When I found out I had to wait even longer for the black/onyx DSlite I waited and got it on release. It was well worth the wait, the system was accepted by the community and had games to show what it was really about for a while. I'm sorry but to me the original design was the ugliest pile of dog do-do I'd seen from Nintendo. I'd rather buy a brand new Virtual Boy, no joke.

It isn't that Nintendo won't most certainly turn the DS-i into a success that traditional gamers will love, but it always takes longgggggger for us to get what we really want..or see things we want that will merit grabbing the system on sight. For the causals though, they will buy up everything gimicky like chocolate at a convenient store.

So the DSi is not just another gameboy Pocket? It's a better system? That changes my opinion on this thing but with no games to decide I will stick to my DS.

That's correct. The DSi has higher specs than the DS/DS Lite. So eventually we will see DSi only games which take advantage of these higher specs. I'd guess the early games will be dual-system compatible, so if you put it in a DSi you might get some camera functionality, and it will probably use that extra ram, similar to how Rogue Squadren looks better if you have the RAM cart for your N64. Once the adoption rate gets high enough we'll start seeing the DSi only games.

I really want one since I got rid of my DSLite last year. I miss my DS, so I'd like the newest one. Plus, I really want the camera feature built in. However, these are my gripes: (1) audio player is AAC only, and my entire collection is MP3. (2) doesn't have a video player. (3) will not run a flashcard. I have zero intersest in ROMS, but I"d like to use homebrew for DSOrganize, mp3 player, video player, etc.

Flash cards do work, just not all of them, there's the DSTTi and the Acekard2i but I don't know if they are or will be able to use the DSi features (extra ram, cameras, etc) for homebrew, I'll get a DSi if the extra specs help SCUMMvm run at full speed

Completely uninterested in it.

All the extra features are pointless.

The DSi games are restricted to pointless minigames (see the new wario ware game) right now.

If I could straight swap my DS lite for a DSi then I might be interested but since it doesn't justify £50 extra on top of a DS Lite brand new and I'd have to pay £70 if I traded my DS lite for one it's just too much for too little upgrade.

The extra ram and slightly faster processor is pointless since devs aren't going to limit their target audience to DSi until it sells as well as the DS lite has done.

Move along guys, nothing to see here.

Theres also EZ Flash Vi note the little i next to V is not 6th but 5th compatible with DSi... My personal favorite is EZ Flash 3-in-1 expansion and the Slot 1 cart from them. They generally get everything to work on their cards with less work than I've seen for something like the R4 or otherwise. I don't know everything but they aren't badly priced and can do the same as other more popular cards. Lol I sound like I'm advertising for them, but I'm not trying to. I still buy DS games... got list I'm working at along everything else.

Regarding the DSi, one last thing that really bothers me is the sacrifice to battery life... that REALLY is a turn off for me, It makes me secretly hope that they will release an improved battery for it or a new design that lasts longer. Go ahead and google for the comparison.. Its a real step backwards for a HANDHELD system, ya know?
