Well, I guess I'll have to chime in with my childhood favorite, Super Mario 3.

I honestly don't think i have one. Sure there have been games that spring to mind that i've really enjoied, but not one above all others. Probably because they were all so fucking good. Plus- none of mine are even remotely obscure. They are pretty much your fan favorites. Here is a short list though. Like i said, nothing obscure.

nes- kirby's adventure- never owned it, but always rented it. It was like a treat. Mario 3 with the the wizard was an unforgetable moment for me..
snes- link to the past, chrono trigger, FF3 My brother and a buddy played through all 3 of these in one summer for the first time. That was a great summer.
Dreamcast- Tony hawk 1,2 Sitting in an apartment full of guys yelling "grind it." if someone wasn't pulling the trick off. Many rounds of soul calibur and Marvel vs capcom 2.
Gamecube- Prince of persia the sands of time. Just a fantastic game and a story that blew my mind at the time.
PS2Katamari- first 3-d game that i concidered to be playing art, and having a good time playing a game.
Xbox Jedi outcast/knight series- expanded the star wars universe for me, as i don't read any of the novels/comics. Really fun games.
Xbox 360- Dead space and mass effect. Both great games I've given multiple playthroughs
Wii- house of the dead series re awoke my love for light gun games. I hadn't played them since the super scope era and the occasional arcade game.

no love for sonic. Even though i enjoy those games, they didn't really blow my mind or anything. Everything i played on the genesis was fun, and some fantastic games, but nothing i would really defend.

Without a question, my pick is Nights Into Dreams for the Saturn. The game is just about the only thing I'll ever need (this is a joke, I know some of this forum is immature enough to make a comment about women or a life, etc.) to be happy.

There are 7 games which I hold dear to the heart, so I may as well list them right away:

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (my username is actually the name of LoK: SR's protagonist)
Silent Hill 2
Okami
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne
Persona 3
Shadow of Destiny

Yeah, I know, they're all newer games, but in order to leave a mark in my heart, a game needs to have a memorable story or characters. I'm not advocating "story first, gameplay second" game design, because I wouldn't choose a game with gripping story but shallow or badly executed gameplay as my favourite. An excellent game should strike a perfect balance between all the elements (music is very important to me as well, since these days I listen soundtracks more than I play games), forming a symbiosis.
