The biggest headache about Mame is new versions sometimes require new checksum version of some Game Roms.

I don't even know what that second sentence means. I do not see why it would not be looking in the ROMs folder by default, it made the folder, not me.

I'm sure Racket found some kind of guide long ago but I found a couple useful links that might help others(even though they have not helped me much).

The checksum issue usually happens when new clones are added to Mame's ever growing library. Newer version primary rom has to be downloaded. A headache when (does anyone) you finally think you have a 100% of the working roms. A particular clone also needs that updated primary Rom to run. Usually all clones also affected.

Octopod, did you get Mame up and running?

I got ya. You mean to make sure you have the parent ROM, right? I got it running sort of. I DLed a set of like 9 Raizing shmups and a set of Bios. Well even though the bios DL was called complete bios it was not complete. So MAME is only recognizing like 4 of those games, I am assuming it is because I do not have the needed bios for them. I also DLed Undercover Cops(my favorite BMU) and got it working but it is not like it plays well with a keyboard.

Also, I have my PC set up with my living room TV as a second monitor. For whatever reason when I open a game in MAME it opens on the second monitor. I set mame to run in a window so I could "pull it down" to my PC monitor but that is a pain in the ass and I can not do it if someone is watching TV. Very frustrating. I never had this much trouble when I used MAME a couple years ago.

Also I have been unable to get my joystick to work. I'll try to DL some recommended drivers for that though.

Yes, the parent Rom. The ones that don't run should list the missing files needed during a load.

I also use MAMEUI and I have an older version of MAME32 on my netbook. It didn't like the newest MAMEUI very much.

I just always make sure to use the correct version of MAMEUI for the romset I download to make sure everything's compatible. There are also custom compiled releases out there for different processors, I am using version compiled for C2D processors on my HTPC. I found that over at Underground Gamer.

Not really a Mame guide per say. More of the reason why you want to get the best EMU.
Sites that show all the Arcade games that can or hopefully one day be in the growing Mame library?

Here's a good one:

Got my joystick working using Microsofts driver for 360 controllers. It reads the joystick as a hat switch rather than a joystick but I am not sure that really matters. Now my problem is that MAME keeps opening the games on my secondary monitor instead of the primary. Real pain in the ass.
