Umm, probably because the only people buying shmups are from the niche audience.

I realize that but some of the rest of us also want to play without being forced to go back to Gradius or Thunderforce.

Otomedius is fun, and the over the top girls are hillarious, but you will have 10 times more fun with Raiden fighters.

To answer Radarscope's question, I feel that the series is much more accessible for new shmup fans. This is not like a Cave "bullet hell" title.

On the Japanese version, you can tone it down to a very manageable level. You can even adjust the frame rate, resolution, and filtering so it looks good on an LCD.

After all the shipping and int'l fees, I paid about 70 bucks for it. I'm telling you at 70 bucks it was worth every penny, so 30 bucks stateside is a damn steal. I'm just patiently waiting for my 360 HRAP to arrive, and life will be good.
