1UP Presents (new magazine)

Post by noiseredux »

Jeremy Parish's new magazine venture. It's pretty exciting to me that a new magazine like this is popping up. I for one love physical print.

That looks like it is very carefully made and the articles look really interested. I can see that $11 is a fair price given what it takes to publish the magazine, yet I couldn't justify spending $11 on 38 pages.

I'm guessing because the point of a 1UP magazine is to take the digital nature of 1UP.com and put it into physical form. Why make a digital magazine when they could have just put these articles up on 1UP.com?

with no ads. Pick up an issue of any imported game mag for $12-$20 and count how many pages are just articles, no ads. Haha.

Or Video Game Trader is what? $8 or $9, but how many pages are ads and price guide?

I think $11 is pricey for a small mag, but not obscene considering it's full color and ad-free.

Yeah, count me out. I already have several magazine subscriptions that were all under $10 a year by catching the right sales/deals. I can't see myself spending $100+ a year to read these, especially since I don't find the Retronauts blog especially interesting and the content looks like a reproduction of that kind of thing (comics, "expert" opinions by retro-enthusiasts, collection guides, etc.). I'd much rather read lengthy interviews and/or histories that are made up from information that I can't just find for myself on the web.

well considering Jeremy Parish is the director of Retronauts, and editor of GameSpite it is going to appeal to fans of those two things and overlap with writers/contributors from each. If you want really long stories about shitting you'll just have to stick to CAG-related output. Grumpy.

I wouldn't pay $11 for 38 pages of shit stories though...especially since I can get them for free.

In all seriousness I wish them luck as I think there's room for some good magazines for the growing retro-gaming hobby. I just don't know that a reproduction of content that's already online in some form is the way to do it.

...just browse through the pages of this magazine and i agree this is not worth $11 even though it's the premier issue. but i am excited on another retro magazine but this is all wrong.. 1up should know better.
