Don't listen to the apologists for Academy. They only care about light sabers, not quality game design.MrPopo wrote:Don't listen to the lies being given to you. Academy is the better game because they don't make you do a bunch of levels before you get to play with your lightsaber. You get it from the start. And Academy gives you dual saber and saberstaff options later in the game.

Turns out I have these games on GOG too. I'll be watching to see who wins

Speaking of GOG and FPS, there's a new (old) one from GSC Game World up; Firestarter. Anyone have any experience with it?

It's a good run'n'gun arcadey kinda FPS. Shallow but sufficient in its single mindedness.
It was pretty for its time, hence why I bought it many years back.
It's a bit violent.

Well, it happened. I am now several levels into Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. I have made it to the Nar Shaddaa levels and am running through what looks to be a bunch of trash compactors. The transition to third-person for melee was a little awkward at first, but I seem to be adjusting ok. I just prefer to do all of my platforming with a gun out instead of a lightsaber.
I also have Jedi Academy installed and ready to go...

Once you get your lightsaber you won't be spending much time in gun mode anymore, and the implementation of Jump in the Quake 3 Jedi Knight games makes the platforming pretty nice; it automatically engages when you hold jump and it makes your jumping a bit more floaty, so it's easier to stick your landings.

Yeah, I have the lightsaber, but I still prefer jumping in first person view.
But nobody warned me I was gonna have to babysit!

I've made it to Cloud City, and I'm still babysitting! Stupid robot, why did you decide it would be a good idea to walk through a hallway full of mines while being sniped at with laser cannons? What possible reason could you have for thinking that you should do that?
Now that I have my force powers going, I can see why folks say you stop using your guns. I still use that sniper rifle for far away enemies, but just about all fights now consist of me using force speed, slaughtering everybody with a lightsaber, and then using force heal afterward to replenish myself. The biggest threats in mass combat are now dying Grans dropping thermal detonators at their feet.

Gran are the bane of everyone with their Thermal Detonators across every game.

Playing a bit of XIII on the oXbox. I kinda missed this one back in the day.
Admittedly, I'm only a few levels in, but so far I'm enjoying it.
I was a fan of the original Bourne Identity film, and this game begins with a premise not unlike that movie. That drew me in right away.
The style and visuals are also enticing.
